The BLACK 559 32 HOLE NMSW VELOCITY DYAD
The blacl 559 32 hole NMSW Velosity Dyad rim I bought from Pro Wheel
Builders has been shipped. In the end I chose the slightly wider Dyad
instead of the A23 even though the A23 more closely matched the
original Catike rim. The spokes and nipples from Universal Cycles have
also been shipped. I'll start disassembling the wheel with the Shimano
hub I'm going to use. The 559 Sun Rhyno-Lite rim and the 266mm and
268mm length spokes will go in my probably_never_will_use bin

Dyad is much more appropriate IMHO.
The 50 grams are negligible to a Cat Trike and Dyad are much
tougher.

I don't know why Catrike chose such a narrow rim (22.4 outer, 16.4
inner) given that the original equipment tires are 40MM.

could build a better wheel. Has Schwalbe One tire which I find decent
but I am thinking of going to the Conti GR prix 5000 30mm tire when this goes. Would you think that would be a better tire? Given a disc that is
not near anything I could go wider even 32. Be curious if you think that might be a better rear tire?

Does Velocity still offer their 'OC' or Off-Center rim? If so, is that what you decided to use?
I think it's a great idea to reduce or remove the amount of dishing needed.
More spokes is more better..why not 40 or 48? As a Clydesdale, I like my 48 spoke wheels Mavic Mod 4, 4X (could have done 5x, I guess) straight gauge spokes and Phil Wood (RIP) hubs. 27" as God intended, of course!
Now I just have to ride it more!

A23 is made in OC format in 700C (622) but not 26 decimal (559).
Cat Trike is a 135mm hub, not 130mm, so the left to right
tension differential is not extreme.
In a perfect world, you're right, OC is better. But for a
hefty, tough rim such as Dyad or Atlas on 135mm, it's not
critical.

What a surprise to find the nipples on the Sun Rhyno-Lite wheel I
planned on disassembling for the hub did not have a slot for my Park
Tool ND-1 Nipple Driver tool. Closer look says they are hex head so
now I have to wait for the three headed hex Park tool I ordered to get
here. My shaky arthritic fingers are not going to unscrew all 32 of
them with a nipple wrench. Cutting the spokes was an option but I'm
too much of a hoarder of stuff I'm never going to use to do that....

That works, but if you had a more pressing schedule you
could remove a nipple and visit a hardware store for a nut
driver or a socket. Most hex nips are 5.5mm, but not all.

That works, but if you had a more pressing schedule you
could remove a nipple and visit a hardware store for a nut
driver or a socket. Most hex nips are 5.5mm, but not all.
After I posted that I scruffed around and found a set with a socket
that fit it. Then I looked at the Park Tool I bought and saw it was a
male hex tool. I attempted to cancel it. Don't know if it will go
through. I shouldn't order anything until I've had my second coffee.

We find these handy as they spin easily.

The socket set I forgot I had was stuffed into the "junk and stuff"
drawer in the kittchen. It was a set of small sockets on shafts that
fit into a screwdriver type handle. The whole thing similar to your
tool. It made easy work of the dissassembly. The hex nipples seemed
easier to deal with than the slot nipples,

Dyad is much more appropriate IMHO.
The 50 grams are negligible to a Cat Trike and Dyad are much
tougher.
I don't know why Catrike chose such a narrow rim (22.4 outer, 16.4
inner) given that the original equipment tires are 40MM.

The correct tool is the Campagnolo I:

I had both two-notch and four-notch freewheel bodies.
Only had one disaster but in general uniform success if I put the quick release through the assembly and tightening it down before putting it in the vice.
Then relieve the QR tension once the FW was broken loose.

Any notch and prong remover format will fail when not
secured by a skewer or axle nut.
The alternate, splines, didn't catch on at first, as one had
to remove the right side axle spacers: https://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfromthepast/fwtools.jpg
Maillard made a large spline format (right in image) in 1972
but was necessarily limited to 14t high gear. It was Phil
Wood who shortly thereafter made the first thinwall remover
for Regina-Atom splines.
https://avaluer.net/explore/8243204-rare_vintage_phil_wood__co_freewheel_remover_for_splined_atom__regina__zeus_fws
Shimano started with small splines: https://www.yellowjersey.org/photosfromthepast/fwboss.jpg
and then around 1980 changed to a slightly larger format
with thinwall removers, called UniGlide or UG. Note these
are similar but not identical to Shimano cassette removers,
called HyperGlide or HG. Don't use the wrong tool in either!
Shimano freewheel removers have broader splines than
cassette removers. Lastly, Campagnolo uses the Shimano UG
freewheel remover tool for their cassette lockrings, as does
Miche.
Thanks for the photos, Andrew. I have a few of those in my collection
I like the plastic storage cups/jars in the last pic. Very high class.
