I like LA Times archived crosswords- pdfs. https://freedailycrosswords.com/printable-la-times-crosswords-august-2014/

I downloaded them (to my hard drive) thru Firefox in my 32bit WinXp
and print them out. Recently I tried d/l one in 64bit Win7. When I
tried to print them Adobe Acrobat could not read them. Booted back
into xp. D/l from xp and Acrobat can read them in both xp and Win7.
Why can't I d/l them in Win7 so they work?

I got a zero byte file. How about you ?

Adobe Acrobat should say something spicy if offered a zero byte file.

You should be checking the size on these example files.

File not downloaded: Potential security risk.

The download is offered over HTTP even though the current document was
delivered over a secure HTTPS connection. If you proceed, the download
may be corrupted or tampered with during the download process.
You can search for an alternate download source or try again later.

And if changing the URL of the PDF to an https:// one, it *still* fails,
as the certificates on that site are not valid for the URL.

    Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN ( as it is really a s3.amazonaws.com server )

That turns this into a Computer Science exam, instead of a crossword puzzle :-) Two puzzles in one. Great. And did I mention it was Free ?

A less sophisticated browser, won't throw up quite as many barriers
    to a good time.

Even if you used a wget or a curl, it should still fall into all of
these traps. I don't think, necessarily, you can dodge your way
out of it that way. It will likely take an older software, to accept
things as it finds them. Use a too-modern tool, it will throw up
these ridiculous strawmen scenarios it makes up.

This time when I tried d/l in Win7 it did say:
"File not downloaded: Potential security risk."

Your explanation makes sense, Long as I can PRINT them in Win7 I'll be satisfied - I had to jump thru hoops to get an Acrobat that would
    print a month at once.

Nice cross word. Thanks for the link. The file downloaded without any problems. I do not have or want anything Adobe. I use Foxit 2.2 and
PDF Exchange 2.5 in Win 7. Both work well for me.

Never mind, figured it out: DISPLAY the pdf in Firefox then Save as a
page. I'd always RH clicked on link and Save Link. That messes up in
    Win7

You can download the file FF. The trick is to click on the red button
and select 'Allow download', as shown in the picture below. Both images

    Interesting...
I go to "Today's printable crossword", then wait for the unseen blocked
ad to load (takes exactly 10 seconds) then click on "click here to play
your puzzle", then click on "Print Daily Puzzle". It then downloads as
a pdf. I prefer downloading instead of display. However, today's date
(Sep 25, 2026) puzzle is actually "21st September, 2026 rCo Print Puzzle".
Win 7. Both FF 115.41.0esr and SeaMonkey version 2.53.23 work ok, which
is surprising since SM rarely works with anything any more.
I also download "today's LA Suduko" which is actually the correct date.
