As I approach retirement, I have been think of ways to reduce
reoccurring costs for services and have decided that saving over $100/mo
by dropping my business cable Internet service is a good start.
However, I've had statis IP addresses for so long, I haven't paid any attention to dynamic DNS hosting.
What do ou all here use for your dynamic DNS needs?

I'm on Verizon FIOS and my IP address rarely changes. So I just manually change it at the domain provider (name.com) for when it does change.
Maybe once every 6 months.
That being said, I use No-IP as my backup. It's like $25 a year and you
can run a program on your computer that automatially updates the IP at No-IP when your IP address changes.
They have a free option, but you need to go there every 30 days to renew your account. I opted for the pay version and it works quite well and is reliable.

I use Cloudflare for updating my DNS records for any rare IP change.
Since I use a pfsense firewall (as a VM), there is the ability to update
it directly from the firewall to Cloudflare.
I have it force an update once a month just to keep things from going
stale.
Thanks, Mark.
Annual costs?

No cost. All the services I use on Cloudflare are at zero cost.

What are you using CloudFlare for? To protect against HTTP attacks? or
for Telnet as well?
I use Cloudflare as my DNS provider and also reverse proxy for my
website and a few other web related items.
Inbound telnet goes directly to my IP and all is handled on pfsense.
What plugins/filters do you use on your pfSense firewall? I use pfBlockerNG, but what else is good to use?
I use pfBlockerNG as well. I also ensure that only (1) connection to
tcp/23 per IP can be made to avoid a flood of telnets from a single IP.
I also still use a Mystic front end which will add the connecting IP to
a blocklist if too many invalid attempts, etc
The only negative to use Mystic as the front end is it breaks the xfer section in my classic WWIV. None of the xfer protocols work properly
with it acting as the front end.

What setting do you use for that? I need to use that for my firewall.

On the WAN inbound rule for tcp/23, under the "advanced options"
section. There is a "Max. connections", which sets the max connections
per host. That limits inbound tcp/23 to (1) connection per IP.
I'll add that parameter. Thanks!
