• fsxNet on WWIV

From Patch #1@142.Wwivnet@11:1/101 to All on Thu Aug 22 14:54:32 2024

Is anyone running Mystic's fsxNet on their WWIV boards, and if so can I please get some help getting my board set up with it.

When I came back to the BBS scene I started off using Mystic, and would like to reconnect with those good fols.

    Please let me know.

I'm on fsxNet on WWIV, what do you need help with? There are a couple of others here who are on fsxNet and FidoNet too.

Working with Avon to get this going again, I have my node number but am wondering if I need any other software in order to initiate a pull for messages.

Do we have to install Binkp or does WWIV handle that natively? If we have to install Binkp, is there a version that will work on Debian Linux?

Do you happen to have an installation guide that I can step through or can we get together via email and help get this going again?

Once this is all completed I plan on updating any 'How-To' documents there are or will create so that we have something to reference. As an example, I worked with Maskreet the other day to get Doorparty online and we both noted that the information in the official WWIV docs is outdated.

Fido will be the next adventure as soon as we get fsxNet completed. I'm literally at the very beginning of the process, I have my new node number but need to know the right things to select in WWIVConfig, etc.

As much as I hate to admit and say ... can we start at the beginning and walk through the install process?

    My BBS email is patch@theshardforge.com

WWIV has binkp built-in in networkb. wwivd does the calling out as well as listening for inbound calls (telnet/ssh/binkp).

can we get together via email and help get this going again?

I think https://docs.wwivbbs.org covers most points nicely including setting up FTN networking. However, feel free to ask for clarification on any aspect that are unclear in the docs so that (a) we can help here and (b) we can update the docs to make them clearer.

Note that a lot of us don't follow the docs to the letter because (a) we were do (a) we wanna ing WWIV stuff before the docs were written, (b) we didn't have any idea there were docs about the stuff we were doing or (c) we wanted to do it our way. :)
