• WWIV Editor behavior

From Diamond Dave #1@131.Wwivnet@11:1/101 to All on Wed Jan 1 20:33:10 2025

For the modern WWIV Editor, is there a way to default to quoting the contents of a post as the old WWIV Editor for 4.xx used to do?

Also, could it be easy to delete a line of text with CTRL-Y or something like that? I think the editor for 4.xx had that functionality.

And finally, could a user type a slash and the letter "s" as in /s to save a post?

As much as I like the modern editor, it could use a bit of tweaks to make it better.

I think some minor improvements would also help wwiv so people know we are still around.

What version are running, on my bbs, typing a slash in the first position pops up the menu and typing S saves (same as how telegard used to do it) Does that not work for you?

Not directed AT you just as an observation in General. I've noticed not a lot of WWIV SysOps call around to the other WWIV BBSes to see what they're up to, and how their using the new features. There are some great things to discover when WWIV SysOps call one anothers BBSes. WWIV is PACKED with features I see going underutilized from the menu editor to MCI codes to wide screen capability. So I guess the question is .. do minor improvements need to happen to WWIV, or do improvements need to happen to ones BBS using WWIVs new features?

    CTRL-K works.

The FSED works with /S, I just accidently did so assuming it didn't work...

There are a couple of other issues I put on github. One xenos has fixed.
    1. matching color of header and footer when system colors are changed or user //colors has changed.
    2. Delete key and backspace key both deleting from cursor to the left, xenos is working on that one.

One other I'd love to see but maybe I just don't know if it has is spell check :/

Version 5.8. I found out after I posted it that the slash DOES work. It just wasn't obvious from the editor itself.

I would like for it to auto quote a message and use CTRL-Y to delete lines that you don't want (I assume you're old enough to remember where that came from? :) )

I may have a few more things I'd recommend overall. Let me think about it!

True. Close to what I'm looking for. I guess that's a good work around for now. :)

What was //UE? User Editor? On 5.9-Dev I have only found //! which I can use to auto validate a user while online. But I have to know the full user name and or the user number (not hard at this point, newer BBS but later may be an issue ..) //UE would be a nice feature to have for sure, along with access to the menu editor when online, like a //ME or something :)
