Hi, UG.
Travelodge in the uk is about 1 tier better than its American cousin.
I use Travelodge all the time when I travel with work (I get cashback for certain chains). They tend to be among the cheapest but the quality varies *wildly*.
The office is near London Tower Bridge, so I'm there semi-often. I usually take the tube 10 minutes out of the centre where there's a really nice Travelodge, for some reason in a bit of a ghetto area. It's about 2/3 the price of the "walking distance" Travelodges, which are all super scruffy / worn out and literally have a railway line running right outside so you get woken up from about 5am.
Across the country I've found a mixture (though outside London they tend to be priced according to quality).
