Im back in California. I dont think I will be visiting the UK for awhile. I will be visiting Washington DC next.
If I ever do the UK again even if the exchange rate goes to hell, I will be going to Manchester England instead. Hotel rooms are a bit cheaper :)

Yup, the hotels are defintiely cheaper than most places down South.

But when you step outside you're in Manchester :)

When you get time, check Charlie Veitch's YouTube out. He produces a daily (almost) video on the life in Manchester. It's a scary town these days.

Personally, I haven't been there in 35 years and I'm not sure if I want to.

Ive went to some of the most urban areas of London such as Brixton and Bethal Green, but I
havent went to Peckham or Luton. But if its dodgy I'll leave by 8 or 9pm.

My goal was 5 days in Manchester, and spend a 1 day trip in Sheffield and the end my trip with 1.5 days in London before I go home.

I've purchased two bass guitar cabinets from Brighton. A small shop where the stuff is almost hand made. I have a box with two 12" speakers rated at 1200 watts RMS 2400 peak. The signal response is flat and they can be used for a huge stereo system. What is great is that the wood is very thin and it's impregnated with tolex like a pickup truck bed. The enclosures have horizontal baffles which structurally hold it together for structural integrity. I have a 2000 watt amp pushing it and yet it weighs only 45 lbs. I tell people that these cabinets are "made by elves". Now with tariffs, I am wary of getting my dream box with eight 10" speakers to kill people with.

Lots of nice stuff coming from Brighton....

As someone who has traveled a lot, I've learned to care less about the lodging, and more bout the area we're travelling to. Why spend premium rates for a room that we're only going to actually use for sleeping?

As long as a hotel/motel/AirB&B is clean, quiet and safe, we're good.

Anything beyond that is kind of a waste.

Travelodge in the uk is about 1 tier better than its American cousin.

I hope work fares well so I can afford to do super trip number 4. Either Washington DC or Manchester/Sheffield/Blackpool

You need watts for bass. Not only to keep up with guitar and drums, but to hear clarity with the lower registers. If it's too muddy, then it's hard to distinguish the difference between notes. I have a 2000 watt bass amp with a class D power section and an all valve preamp. It sounds incredible. The preamp has a separate volume and gain to "cascade" them. They can break up, and it sounds like Jack Bruce in Cream.

    Hi, UG.

Travelodge in the uk is about 1 tier better than its American cousin.

I use Travelodge all the time when I travel with work (I get cashback for certain chains). They tend to be among the cheapest but the quality varies *wildly*.

The office is near London Tower Bridge, so I'm there semi-often. I usually take the tube 10 minutes out of the centre where there's a really nice Travelodge, for some reason in a bit of a ghetto area. It's about 2/3 the price of the "walking distance" Travelodges, which are all super scruffy / worn out and literally have a railway line running right outside so you get woken up from about 5am.

Across the country I've found a mixture (though outside London they tend to be priced according to quality).

When will you be in DC? I can give you some pointers.

I live about an hour south. I rarely go up there anymore by car since the traffic sucks. They have a good subway system and I highly recommend using that.

likely in May, Im skipping England. I'll do Manchester hopefully in August of next year. I have a CPAP machine and before it gets leased to me I have to reliably use it. I just dont want to bring the machine on a trip.

I brought mine to Denmark back in 2017. They're dual voltage, so it worked fine in Europe.

Recently I bought a mini CPAP machine. I need to really try it out at home before I travel in a couple of weeks (just to New Jersey, but still travel since I live in Virginia).

On a separate topic, but still regarding DC, I am going to be heading to DC
for an AWS Summit next week. I have a hotel booked and will be riding the subway in. I put $20 on my metro (or whatever they call it) app. Will that be enough? I will be coming in from Loudoun County.
I live about 1h 15m from DC, so I wanted to avoid the drive each day of the conference. TRAFFIC is HORRIBLE.
    Thanks for any advice.
