• Finally! No more crashes after upgade!

From Jimmy Mac #1@707.Wwivnet@11:1/101 to All on Wed May 21 20:35:25 2025

So.. for the last several months, I have been unable to upgrade my WWIV build to the latest due to the wwivd crashing on launch. Drove me nuts!

After a massive cleaning of my VM, and confirming (and repairing) the latest version of the VC++ redistributable, I finally catch that the event log is pointing at a file version dated 2016! Holy crap!
After a quick look around, I see that in the root of my WWIV folder is the offending file that was the wrong version! Kuled that file and Huzzah!
The upgrade to the latest dev build here on Windows 10 x86.

    What a PITA!

So glad I didn't kuke the entire VM and start clean, but I certainly learned to clean up old residual files from the last decade of updates.

That's great, what was the name of the file that was causing the issue?

    It as the msvcp140.dll

Nuked it and all came back to life. No idea how it ended up in the BBS directory, maybe a door game I extracted at some point?

Yuck - yes that'll certainly do it. Good find and glad you got it sorted out.

Thanks. Yea, something a simple as a misplaced file, left over from who knows what, caused all sorts of grief. I was clear that the issue was related to the redist, but upgrading that was one of the first steps I took. I just neglected to fully review the root of the bbs folder.I have to wonder what other files in there wil cause problems in the future assuming that I can stick with Windows 10.
