I did some good things in life, but I want to do it the next level. I am thinking I should look into a masters degree in history. Politics is getting me nowhere, it seems like its a money pit unless you are in bed with the status quo of either major party in the United States.

I am thinking of doing the following:

My epic poetry collection from 1996-present. I have almost 30 items.
The Inland Utopia Reader, blog articles and other good stuff from 2001-present

Make a difference and either a) Serve in some form of political activity or b) Run for a beginner office.

When I moved from Baltimore to Cape Cod, I was solicted by a young lady at the post office who was running for County Council. I told her that I was new here and not knowledgable about local politics. She asked me where I was from and I said, "Timonium (Baltimore Co.) Maryland." She then asked me what high school I attended. I replied "Dulaney Highschool!" And then she said. "I graduated from Dulaney HS in 1969... I am older than you are! :O So she ran for County Council and won. I had to laugh!

I am likely going to run for the grade 9-12 school board in my area in 2028.

    a. respecting taxpayers
    b. implement innovative programs to help STEM in lower income neighborhoods in the district
    c. make sure there is access to the trades even in the wealthier neighborhoods who may not have it. Just as much as AP classes should be avaliable in lower income neighborhoods. Even if students have to do an inter-district transfer.
    d. Special education reform. Stop suing parents by default. If its cheaper to provide the service than using the lawyer, give the service.

True, I am thinking of a serious run for school board. It may not make money, but at least I could do something meaningful and have a legacy for tens of thousands of people each year.

My fifth grade teacher was my first male teacher and very active. He knew I was from a "broken home" and stopped by one Saturday and "recruited" me into delivering bags of food to people who were sick and insecure in his church. He encouraged us into the sciences and had a telescope set up at the school where we could gather in the evening and look at the stars. One of my classmates eventually worked with NASA when she grew up. He became the director of the board of education. In my 60's I looked him up and called him on the phone. He put me on hold and got a logbook he kept that he documented where we all are. Through FaceBook I contacted other class members who called him. It was the delight of his life. He had had a heart transplant and his days were numbered. I guess his life force was too much for the heart that he was given. He made a difference. His generation was the generation that fought for our Civil Rights. Now some of us remember and are picking up the gauntlet for our freedom, the Rule of Law and our Constitution. The People United Will Never Be Defeated!

It concerns me how strongly this contrasts with current events.

Seems like a big chunk of people just want to be truly horrible to others, presumably to convince themselves they're not the bottom rung of the ladder or maybe because they just enjoy it. It's good to be reminded that good people still exist.

    Bob,

I think its a good chunk of people who have true hatred in their lives. They have grown up with and been taught that anyone who thinks or act different then them is bad. I'm so thankful my parents did not raise me that way. I went to a school in a predominately black neighborhood as a white kid, and I enjoyed every moment of it. Met some of the kindest, nicest people. Many of which all these years later I still keep in touch with.

The other part of your statement is true as well -- I see so many people who spread hatred and swallow the MAGA philosophy flying flags in front of run-down, weed filled, trash strewn trailers. These people probably need assistance and help, but would rather spend what little resources they have on a flag for a person/group that could care less about them. You have to ask yourself why? And I firmly believe it is because they want to look down on someone - and want to convince themselves that the lowest rung isn't themselves.

Yes! It wasn't super recent, but some time ago we were at Knott's Berry Farm. There was a line miss-hap and I kinda got pushed out of it. The dude that was second in line said "Hey man, no, you were here before I was, go ahead of me." Totally didn't expect it, and it really helped reassure me about humanity.

As I'm sure you noticed on your visits, tea is not strictly mandatory :)

I don't touch the stuff, myself. Though I did get rather used to drinking peppermint / ginger and turmeric non-teas while I was on a restrictive diet. My wife still brings me one in the morning instead of coffee and I don't want to spoil her fun by saying no.

That's the type of Teas we produce. All sorts of peppermint, ginger, nettle, raspberry etc.. All for medicinal purposed though. Some of my favorites are out Lemon Echenacea Throat Coat, Breathe Easy and our Every Day Detox.

I'm slowly working my way through most of these :)

Peppermint - supposed to help digestion but my guts are wrecked, cooling? Ginger - likewise, but at least it gives you a nice "burn" senstation
Redbush - just tastes like tea
Digestive - tastes like mulled wine without the wine
Orange ginger turmeric - tastes and smells like a Christingle? Semi addictive Green tea - kind of its own thing, not sure about this one

I did once try Earl Grey but I stupidly asked for milk in it. The Dutch nurse who served it to me looked at me as if I was some kind of moron, which was probably deserved under the circumstances. In my defence, she never mentioned it was Earl Grey until after she'd served it to me.

That's an awefully 'American' trait. When I was a kid, it seemed all the mothers in the area gave their kids milked and sweetened teas. Ick!

Same problem with Coffee. It's so hard these days to find a good coffee.. It seemd that with the de-evolving of Starbucks, todays generation(s)? Seem to have morphed coffee into some sort of sugarbomb specialty drink to help advance drinker into diabetes.
When I go out and order coffee, if the host asks if I want cream or sugar, I ask "Why? is your coffee that bad?"

Megs says it's actually quite the "granola" area. I would like to visit, it's been awhile since I've been out West. I used to see my dad who lived in Sierra Vista Az and he was a big hiker. We would go up to Aravipa Canyon and backpack in. My wife and I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary by doing the scenic trainride in Vancouver to Bamf. Somewhat nervous about travel yet more nervous about coming back into the US. We would like to spend our money for our Northern neighbors.

Awesome! The Vancouver BC area is one of my favorite destinations. Julie and I spend a week in Sooke (Victoria Island) last year, and have in the past stayed in Vancouver while taking day trips up to Whistler and elsewhee along the Sun Coast. The ride from there to Banff would be awesome! Especially when there's still some snow.
Heck, I'd move to BC in a heartbeat is I just had an extra mil for a small lot.

Thank you for the ideas. Sounds exciting!
    Happily!

I forgot to mention the hike to and around Big Chief & Little Chief, Shannon Falls, and the Sea to Sky gondola up near Squamish. If you are into hiking.. Well, take a look online at some of the images of the area.
