I have been getting pounded by "zombie" bots. Many of whom are Comcast users who have malware on their machines. I report them to Comcast and they do look into it but it's not major stuff for them to do so. I will probably change my port in the near future to something less obvious than #2002. I will announce ahead of time of course....

So Comcast did take care of it and things are quiet. I'm sure someone else will do it again but I'm pleased with the results of the complaint...

I'm waiting to see how "resilient" the web frontend generated by Grok is (https://bbs.wwiv.net). I kind of like reading and posting in a fullscreen webpage... or, at least, it feels "natural" albeit a bit new. I think I mentioned I turned on the fake mailer to thwart bots from eating up the available nodes, but I'm not sure yet whether that's enough. I am very restrictive on which ports I expose publicly. Most of my incoming traffic results from port redirection.

Anyway, starting to have fun recovering old data and, hopefully, old friends from the years gone by! :)

It is great to have you back again! BBSing has always been a fun hobby and many of us have been around for decades. Heck, I have been running WWIV since my teenage years.

I remember visiting you and Dru for a BBQ long ago. I think I only had one of my daughters at the time and was in my low 20s. Sometimes it feels like yesterday.

Anyway, I'm happy you are back and having fun with the hobby again!

Very happy to be back myself. This is a much more civil environment than many of those that sprung from our roots back then. I'm hoping that some younger folks rediscover the hobby.

Definitely great to see friends like you again. Dru often asks how you've been. We landed in Locust Grove (Central VA), given that it's closer to Elizabeth and her family. Michael still lives in Vancouver, BC with his wife and family. He's a busy guy (CTO for a company up there), but they have been able to visit the past couple summers.

Anyway, retirement is great, but it's also fun to be doing something technical again! :)

It's a start. The design objective was to isolate the telnet traffic to the device itself, so the user didn't need to futz with potential firewall or port restrictions required by telnet and SSH, so the user only needed a browser. File transfers will require a different approach. Previously, I had rolled a utility (DIR2HTML) that parsed DIRS.DAT to read each transfer directory and build clickable FTP-based links for each file, but that's no longer useful, I think. I hope to spend more time on it going forward.

This reminds me... I want to figure out a way that users can save an LLM chat history and be able to download it somehow. I was thinking HTTP links, but how can I be sure only the owner of the chat gets it...

Yes, that is really cool! The only thing that looks a bit off is the white line that goes down the right side (end of line) and it doesn't appear to work-wrap, but it is nice reading right in ta browser in ANSI, etc.

That sounds like a nice project! Maybe more people will be interested if there is no need for a client and can use the native browser without the old now retired adobe flash, etc.

    Is it using html5?

If this could be an overlay on my classic BBS, I could get my xfers working again.
