Got about five inches here in Locust Grove, VA (between Fredericksburg and Culpeper), but that was immediately followed by 1+ inch of ice. It remains so hard that snowblowers can't even do the job... it's backbreaking work with a metal spade!

DANG! While that is a lot of snow, I sure hope it is JUST snow and that you do not get a bunch of ice after. Here in northern VA, we had snow followed by ice and very cold temps. It made it very difficult to shovel out. My wife and I can walk the backyard without breaking through the layer of ice on top of the snow it is that thick.

Yep! Same up here in northern VA (Maurertown, VA). If it was just snow, it would be "alright". It is the ice that makes it rough. And the darn cold weather. Temps are too cold for the salt to work. It is gonna "warm up" a little this week - maybe it will melt some of it.

Wait, what? We're practically neighbors! I live in south Stafford county, just north of Frederickburg!

Speaking of which, we got snow, then sleet, then freezing rain. It all melted into a solid ice chunk that I call "Snowcrete". It's so bad. And my driveway is still an ice cube!

Yeah, it's the worst that I've seen it since I moved here full time in 1995.

Even when I lived in PA in my teenage years it never got this bad! I mean we got snow, but not this ice crap!

I can't wait for this to melt. But they said it may be until March for it to melt completely!

We received somewhere around 10" of snow from the storm, which ended as a good 1" of sleet. The people that shoveled too early had a solid sheet of ice that was in deep freeze mode.

It wasn't too bad for us clearing everything the next morning. The guy that normally does our common sidewalks was unable to do it with the snowblower, so I ended up finding someone with a skid steer to clear those areas. It took him 8 hours even with a skid steer since the plows had pushed several feet of snow over some areas of the walks.

I'm seeing lots of people with Bobcats these days. One thing there is no shortage of here on the cape. Everybody seems to have one.

Been a pain here because I have a contractor (HIVEX) finishing the basement for the next two months, and there's no street parking because of the snow banks. I hope we have some melting soon!

I grew up in Boston, and we had some doozies over the years, but something as solid and unmovable as this stuff was extremely rare.

You're on Cape Cod, right? We've probably talked about it before, but I grew up in Boston (West Roxbury) and left in the early 70s after joining the Navy. Don't have too much family left there now, though. Sister and her clan live in Manomet. Brother and his live in Providence.

Funny! I grew up in Maryland and used to log onto your board via modem. We sort of changed places. Anyhow I moved here 15 years ago. My wife is a native and I guess I'm a "wash a shore". My wife is an associate professor at the Boston Architechtural College and has given me the Boston tour many times. So now I know Baltimore, Washington DC and Boston enough to drive around and not get lost. The cape has peculiar weather in that it pokes out to the Gulf Stream a bit. There is a significant weather difference when you go off cape i.e., it looks like Boston will get some significant snow Wednesday night into Thursday and we will be lucky to get anything. Send me a message on this board if you can as I forgot my password on Eagles Dare. Good to hear from you again.

Awesome, Jim! We ultimately landed in Locust Grove (VA) nearer to our oldest, Elizabeth. We can now spend much time with their two-year old daughter, May. Being a Papa is, by far, the most fun thing I've ever done in life!

Hold off on the password reset. I haven't yet moved the user data from the prior 5.X board to this one. The other (which still runs behind the scenes) still waits for data migration. That's running on Windows 10 (32-bit). I've been building this one on Ubuntu for a while, but there always seemed to be distractions keeping me from migrating (and coding stuff I need to make it suitable to me). I hope I have time going forward now.

Kewl! My oldest daughter has a due date of May 21st. By the looks of her pictures, I don't think she will make it. Never thought I would be a grandpa but it's looking pretty good..

Also have a new Linux install I am working on and I understand the distractions. I seem to be the chief cook and bottle washer around here :O

Now that I'm retired, I'd be fibbing to say it was other "productive" tasks keeping me busy, but it's really just hanging out with my granddaughter whenever I can that distracts me. :)

Anyway, I will make the time, as time goes on...

Yes, we have some 6-7' mounds from the plows in our circle right now, even after a week above freezing (for the most part). Like you mentioned, it is solid snow/ice. It took me almost all day last week to break apart the 5-6" think ice on our pool cover and throw it little by little in chunks in the yard.

Yesterday was beautiful and in the upper 50s and we still have ice chucks around the pool.

I'm not retired yet, but I can certainly see how even minus having to do typical work all day, there are so many other things to keep busy that you will wonder how you had time to ever work in the first place.

There are days where just sitting in the backyard with my wife and dog, drinking a beer is my activity for the afternoon.
