• Upgrading phone or buying an external NFC reader?

Has anybody bought an external NFC reader for an existing Android
    smartphone? And does it work?

I have a stinky Huawei Y9 2019, which is doing the job, but I'll soon
get my new Italian ID card which contains a chip that can only be read
by a NFC card. Potentially there could be a UK digital ID that may or
may not depend on a NFC-capable smartphone.

    Thanks.

Why do you want to read the Italian card using NFC? Just curious.

You will not be able to read fingerprint data.

To access pretty much most of the bureaucracy. Italy went in a short
period of time from "all paper" to "all digital".

    It's all here: https://www.cartaidentita.interno.gov.it/en/useful-info-for-citizens/log-in-with-cie/

You need that magical "level 3".

    Online authentication. I see.

    Thanks.

Even if an external NFC reader works flawlessly, it will be
inconvenient. It may be better to put the money (u30 perhaps?) towards
    a new phone.

I also got my phone (Moto G7) in 2019. It's now laggy, its battery is
worn out, and some apps don't like Android 10. I'm not a fan of getting
new phones to keep up with the latest snazzy features ... but it's
becoming time to get a new one. I've had 6 years use from it.

Now my desktop PC is a different story ... made in 2005 and still
going. Well, going sort of strong-ish. What can you expect from an
    AMD Athlon 3500?
