• PlusNet/Greenby, POP. and "where are my emails?" - spam trap

    From J. P. Gilliver@G6JPG@255soft.uk to uk.telecom.broadband on Tue Sep 29 09:21:24 2026

I thought I'd start a new thread as others may not be looking at the
"we'll send you a code emails" one as they think it doesn't affect them.

If you collect by POP (using Thunderbird or any other email client), and
have been transferred to Greenby (or are a new Greenby customer by any
other means - is anyone here a new Greenby customer who is _not_ a
PlusNet one?), please note the following:

Greenby _do_ have a spam folder, and you do _not_ get any notification
that they have put anything into it. In addition, there is a slider to determine how aggressive the spam detection is - and it is set to most aggressive by default. There is also a switch.

So if you are a Greenby/POP user, log into their webmail and check the
spam folder - then (at least, if you find anything there, especially if
it was important!) log into settings, and consider turning off the spam detection or moving the slider.

Especially if you have your own spam filtering on your Inbox (or
whatever your email client calls it): anything Greenby puts in their own
spam folder will never even _reach_ your Inbox.

I think that's broadly the same as PN with POP3 used to be? Roundcube
    wasn't it?

After opting out some months ago from any transfer to Greenby, I had an
email from PN yesterday asking me if I want to opt out, by a date in
    November.

Could be - though I _think_ things like one-time-code emails got through
a bit more when it was PLusNet in charge.

Roundcube is what Greenby's webmail seems to be called; I think
PlusNet's was just called PlusNet webmail.

I don't remember there being any _option_ to opt out - unless by that
you mean relinquish any email provision at all.

Roundcube is a widely used webmail program, it's what a lot of hosting

I opted for rCyDonrCOt want anything to do with GreenbyrCO the first time this was offered some months ago, so was a little surprised when this new email arrived yesterday. Looking back at that, and having dug the email out of
the Trash, it was specific for the username@username.plus.com address,
which IrCOve now opted out of.

Ah, I hadn't realised that. The name (and logo) appears when you log
into Greenby webmail; it didn't when you logged into PlusNet webmail, so
    they probably didn't use it.
