• Greenby (ex Plusnet) email system down?

    From NY@me@privacy.net to uk.telecom.broadband on Sun Jul 5 00:49:24 2026
    From Newsgroup: uk.telecom.broadband

Is anyone else having problems accessing their Greenby email at the moment?

I've tried by POP (Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail) and by https://webmail.greenby.com/ and in all cases I get bad
username/password with a spurious prompt to enter the correct password.
The last email that I received was 17:52 on 4 July (today).

    See https://status.greenby.com/ - "July 4th, 2026 10:15 PM
    Active for
2h 38m". Whether 22:15 is when the fault started, or just when someone
    reported it, I don't know.

It happens often enough that I'm certainly not going to be paying
Greenly when the time comes. That'll probably be when I leave PlusNet.

If greenly are crap (I think they are) why not leave them now? They may
be free for 2 years, but you're going to be subject to crap for 2 years.

Plusnet are cutting corners (usenet, email, landline) but if you think
PN themselves are crap, why wait until your free 2 years of crap email
    runs out before leaving?

It may well be sooner with the VoIP thing.

But it's not that easy to leave. I hope you have better luck than I did.

I was with Plusnet but the only email that I've got on my Plusnet email account in recent months has been the monthly one telling me my bill is available on their website. Despite leaving Plusnet they seem to have
moved my email account to Greenby because I got a welcome message from
them. I tried to cancel it but this did not work. I contacted their
customer services and repeated my request and asked for confirmation
that they had cancelled it. This never came. But I've never signed up
and if they try to get money from me in a year or two I'll force my bank
    to return the money.

I don't wish to leave PN as my iSP, I have already moved my PSTN number
to a VoIP provider, I've also moved my mailboxes and smarthost away from
PN. (I haven't deleted my greenby mailbox so far, it basically receives
spam now, every time I see that it gets a routine email from some
company I either unsubscribe it, or migrate it to a domain).

I doubt PN will be allowed to "fork" payment details to greenby, it's
not like the situation where companyA takes over companyB and takes the existing payments.

It continued for 8-10 hours, then the above page said "All Systems Operational". But I still couldn't connect - with Thunderbird or webmail.
At one point I got this from Thunderbird:

"The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and
sizes. Mail server mail.plus.net responded: [SYS/TEMP] Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. [2026-07-05 11:39:58]"

that hasn't repeated, just "Login to server mail.plus.net with username <username> failed."
