• Aura EZ 4K (FHR-6000T) - Avoid!!

This is a public safety announcement.

Users and other bystanders can be injured by exploding parts of the Aura
EZ 4K (FHR-6000T), if it is improperly disposed off on the bonfire. Just
    do not add petrol.

I'm not saying the bonfire method is bad though, but cancelling the
purchase after a few months have passed - bonfire is the only resort.
Selling the item on eBay is likely to damage your seller rating. Giving
it away is likely to attract the attention of medical professionals.

The claimed recommended process on suffering repeated failures to
record, and stream lockups is to do a factory reset which wipes all
saved recordings, saved recording schedules, "my list" freely favourites
and app logins for streaming apps.

Having two TV guides in different apps, one for recording and the other
for live/catchup streaming Freely, is just a bad usability experience.

This review, which I wish was read before the purchase, is entirely
    accurate.

The non-Freely Manhattan T4-R is streets ahead and faster/friendlier to
use, but one of those also suffers lockups, so I'm open to suggestions
on a better PVR. Has to have a HDD. Even though there is a rock solid
internet connection, streaming is unreliable, not everything broadcast
is available and just too many adverts to watch.

I'm usually quick to upgrade stuff, and bought an Aura within a few
weeks of release in 2020, because it has three tuners, but fotunately
I waited for the reviews when the EZ was released so my Aura will have
    to carry on.

It should :) and I should have bought that one,
the Humax Aura 4K Android TV Recorder (FVP-4K)

Not this dammed child, Aura EZ 4K (FHR-6000T)

The EZ is a downgrade, though it is based around Android but compared
with the former Aura it is very locked down (EZ), you don't get to do
normal Android like things on it. Humax should not have labelled it
    Android IMO.

    From their FAQ
    https://uk.humaxdigital.com/product/aura-ez-4k-freely-recorder/
    # Is Aura EZ a direct successor to the Aura (FVP-4K)?

No. Aura EZ is not a direct replacement or upgrade for the Aura (FVP-4K). It is a different product line with a different purpose.

    - Aura (FVP-4K)
Google-certified Android TV device, focused on apps and OTT services.

    - Aura EZ (FHR-6000T)
Freely-based TV recorder, focused on live TV, catch-up, and recording.

    # Is the original Aura (FVP-4K) still supported?

Yes. Although the Aura (FVP-4K) has been discontinued, technical support for existing customers remains available. Aura EZ does not replace Aura; it is a separate product designed for a different viewing experience.

Hmm, might look for one on eBay. Software should be stable now?
