My MIL has a Hisense 55 Inch 55U7KQTUK smart TV. Recently it sometimes
won't respond to the remote to turn it on. The LED changes from white
to red (or is it the other way round?) but nothing happens, the screen remains blank.
If the TV is powered down and then up by pulling and replacing the
power plug it recovers normal operation and the remote works as
expected. However the problem repeats, it has done it three or four
times in the past couple of days.
I have checked the batteries in the remote, they're OK.
Has anyone any idea what might be going on?
Note: my MIL does tend to press every button in sight on the remote
so she **may** be getting things into a strange situation. However one
would hope there's a way of recovering apart from power cycling the TV.

my case replacing the remote's batteries fixed it. I suppose it's
possible that the power on/off key could have become worn from repeated
use, so that when depressed it no longer makes contact with what's
beneath. A relatively cheap and easy solution might be to replace the
remote rather than trying to repair it.
Incidentally, don't most TVs still have a built-in on/off button? If
that Hisense model does and it's easily accessible, then turning the TV
off and on there might be an easier alternative to removing and
replacing the plug.

I have seen something similar on a Samsung TV. The remedy in that case
was to disconnect the TV from the power supply for some time, overnight maybe. This seemed to clear the problem for a few months. The theory is
that it takes some time for the TV to fully discharge and clear whatever grot was stuck in the system.

By 'disconnect the TV from power supply for some time'
I always unplug from the mains every night - is that the same as what
you write?
