Males me wonder if streaming subscriptions are a complete rip

Convenience is what a lot of consumers are after these days, which
is part of the reason you see so many DVD collections offered for
sale on FaceBook or eBay, usually at quite low prices.

I would like to watch the first fifteen seasons of "Law And Order"
(original series), mainly for Richard Belzer's continuing portrayal
of Detective John Munch, shifted across to NYC from the
Baltimore-based "Homicide: A Life On The Streets", but at present
they're available only at what I regard as disproportionate prices,
whether for DVD box sets or streaming.

I used to enjoy "Homicide...." when I was living in the US, I knew
the area of Baltimore where it was based, but I missed the
double-length finale. One day I'll catch it somewhere.

It's available on Sky Atlantic at the moment.

I was watching L&O on 5USA last night and one of the episodes
featured Munch and Falsone, with cameos from Giardello and another
H-ALOTS character. Obviously set sometime between the start of the
final season (when Falsone arrived) and the feature-length final|-.
Thanks, but I'm not going to subscribe to Sky just for that one episode!

Agreed. But I have not yet found how to download a Youtube video and

If I had had uBlock installed when I watched Homicide..., which I

The mp4 (or whatever) file used on the YouTube servers does not have
gaps for ads. The YT system simply pauses the playback and shows an ad
(or ads) instead, reverting to the point where the content gave way to
the advertising when that has finished. If you download the YT file, it

ever watched on Youtube, and it has not impressed me, in fact
it has ensured that I will never, ever, buy anything from
    Primark, I really do not

I don't know about internet ads because I rarely see them. My
attitude is if something is over-advertised then it's not worth
    buying.

    On that I wholeheartedly agree.

intend to spend time adding something to my PC that I am
unlikely to ever use. I will take the risk.

Since your existing ad-blocker is not doing such a good job, I
thought you might like to replace it.

I have had no reason to even consider that my current blockers
have any problem. This is the first occasion in several years.
If I had had uBlock installed when I watched Homicide..., which I
streamed, what would I haven seen instead of the adverts when they
would otherwise have been displayed? Would the display have jumped
directly to the after-advert. time, or substituted a blank
    screen?

The mp4 (or whatever) file used on the YouTube servers does not
have gaps for ads. The YT system simply pauses the playback and
shows an ad (or ads) instead, reverting to the point where the
content gave way to the advertising when that has finished. If you
download the YT file, it is whole and unmolested.

    ...but without subtitles.

not an issue if you use Windows ..

    No thanks.

    Very probably.
