The BBC stopped using the Droitwich LW transmitter this morning at 0100
    BST. More info at <https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c74yn7v7k4qo>.

At that time the long wave transmitter was switched into a retune loop.
It will be switched off on 30 June.

    The article incorrectly states:

"Droitwich was picked as a central location for the station and masts so
Long Wave could reach everywhere in the UK."

No mention of the additional transmitters at Westerglen (near Falkirk)
    or Burghead (near Inverness)

AIUI Westerglen and Burghead LW were introduced with the 1978
frequency changes (when Radio 4 moved to long wave) so at the time
Droitwich was 'picked' and constructed it was intended to cover the
whole UK. The sentence is therefore correct as written.

I listened to the loop this morning. Two observations:
    1. I did not recognise the 'presenter'. Is he a BBC man or maybe an
    Arqiva employee?
    2. Electrical interference was particularly bad and weak signal. I
wonder if they have reduced the power of the transmitters - or even
closed Westerglen and Burghead leaving Droitwich as the only
    transmitting station?

    What is a "Retune loop"?

One problem was the two Scottish sites, all three siteswere supposed to
be kept in phase but it is impossible to do that everywhere.

I used to use Long Wave occasionally before got Radio 4 on VHF FM, there
was a point around the bottom of the entrance to the track up to work
where they were often out of phase but it varied from day to day.

By the way, have all the Medium Wave services at the three sites closed?

A tape loop (or digital equivalent) advising listeners to retune to a
    different transmitter.

No. AIUI Burghead has Radio Scotland and Radio 5 Live. Westerglen has
Radio Scotland, Radio 5 Live and TalkSPORT. Droitwich has Radio 5 Live
    and TalkSPORT.

Thanks, just wondered because I never listen on MW or LW. I had though
of listening to the last LW closedown but could not be bothered trying
to find a receiver - really need a DSB or even SSB receiver here to hear it.

    The message, and the carrier, stopped some time this morning (30 June);
    I don't know what time.
