• Watching Australia v England next winter

Apparently TNT Sports are likely to once more secure the TV r4ights for
this winter's Ashes series. I don't know whether there will be any
highlights packages viewable elsewhere, but judging by last time I
    suspect not.

A TNT Sports subscription comes in at u30 a month, or u20 if you have BT
or EE broadband, which unless you're prepared to sit up for most of the
night to watch the coverage seems poor value. However it appears that if
you have an Amazon Prime subscription you can add a Discovery+ Premium subscription (which includes TNT Sports) for u13 a month. I'd been
thinking of getting an Amazon Prime subscription anyway, as I'd save the postage costs on the stuff I buy from Amazon and so it might pretty much
    pay for itself.

do you have to sign up for a year/18 months or can you cancel after a
couple of months [if england lose the 1st 2 tests in the usual miserable fashion, that will prob be enough for me ;(] i usually listen on the

I don't know. That's something I need to check up on. If you can
subscribe monthly, then the Tests are packed together closely enough
that two months would probably cover all five matches.

Probably, but I haven't investigated that.

Evening John. Apologies for missing your 150th birthday... Anyhoo, if
you've got a VPN you can probably stream the Arses from some Oz site. Unfortunately, you'd have to endure some Oz commontaters... Speaking of
comms, the crew that we're getting for the Eng v Ind series are very
good. Athers, Nas et al. If only they could swap out Mel Jones for Isa,
or even a store mannequin, it'd be even better...

Evening, Alvey, or whatever time it is with you.

Apologies for missing your 150th birthday...

Cheeky! I was born within a few weeks either way of the Invincibles
setting sail from England back to Australia.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've yet to investigate the mysterious world
    of VPNs.

Ah, you've been getting a feed of the Sky coverage, then. Yes, they're
    very good.

We'll have to agree to disagree about Mel Jones though, as I like her commentary and she has a very melodious voice.

Somerset CCC's 150th birthday is coming up on the 18th though.

Sadly it looks like they won't be celebrating by winning their first CC
after drawing with Notts. Even if Surrey lose either or both of their remaining home matches to Warwicks (3rd) and Notts (2nd), it'll be very
tough for Somerset to overtake all 3 of them.

As a Surrey supporter, I naturally feel less enthusiastic about the possibility of Somerset beatuing Surrey to the title. But if Surrey
failed to win it, Somerset would be my second choice. It's remarkable
that they never won it when Botham, Richards and Garner were playing for
them, not to mention Marks, Roebuck and a number of other very useful performers.

I ought to write something about the Oval Test, but I'm too fraught from
    two very tense days.

Correction: Warwickshire are 4th, a point behind Somerset. At the time I posted, CI's table did not include the 8 points from Somerset and Notts
for the draw, even though the match was complete, and there was no *
against the number of matches to suggest that the table hadn't been
updated to include the final points.

That makes it slightly more hopeful for Somerset, but they'd probably
need Surrey to lose one and at least fail win another of their remaining matches, and for Warwickshire to win at TB.
