An excellent game. In the end Buttler's 41 off just 13 balls was
probably the decisive factor. Had Bumrah been fit to play, I suspect
that the result would have been different.

Apparently the strip used for the match was adjacent to the one used for
the Test against NZ. It's remarkable that they played so differently,
even allowing for the difference in the weather.

It was a very good series. Not surprisingly, having Rohit, Kohli and
Bumrah back made India far more competitive than they had been in the
    T20s.

41 off 13 balls .... so average of three and a bit per ball. WOW!!

Having one match playing on a strip right next to the strip used for any reasonably recent match strikes me as weird. I mean, looking at the MCG 'centre', I'm sure I've seen a dozen or so 'stripes' in various stages
    of presentation.

So why use the stripe next door, where the 'close in' fielders have been standing??

It was probably long enough since the Test for any effect of that to be minimised. The fielders probably wouldn't have been standing that close,
though where the bowlers ran off after bowling could potentially have
left some rough I suppose. The strip was probably chosen for its central location on the square, equalising the length of the off and leg
boundaries and being convenient for the installation of the TV cameras
looking down the pitch from each end.

How many Tests were scheduled to be played on THAT ground this Season??

I would have thought if there were only one scheduled, it would get the
middle pitch and the other matches would be played on the other pitches.

But, then again, as I think the crowds that attend the ODI's and T20
matches are largely funding/supporting the Test Matches, maybe the
Curators are giving greater importance to the pitches used for the
    shorter matches.

Two men's Tests, the second being against Pakistan at the end of August,
and the Women's Test v India earlier this month.

I would have thought if there were only one scheduled, it would get the middle pitch and the other matches would be played on the other pitches.

I doubt it. Unlike in most countries, Tests in England are normally
profitable (and there is a significant chance of white-ball matches
    being washed out).
