West Indies legend Chris Gayle has taken up the co-ownership of the
Glasgow franchise in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), which is scheduled to have its inaugural season later this year.

Retired Indian stalwarts Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin were
linked to that particular franchise, but BBC Sport reported that they
have now targeted the Dublin side.

Gayle will share ownership of the Glasgow Mugafians with India-based
Mugafi group, which is in the entertainment business. ItrCOs an Artificial Intelligence-assisted writing platform that helps writers create
    stories, scripts and screenplays.

rCLStepping into the role of co-owner of Glasgow Mugafians marks an
exciting new chapter for me,rCY Gayle said.

rCLEurope represents cricketrCOs final frontier, and the ETPL has the potential to unravel promising local talent and nurture future heroes
who will strengthen the sport in that region. I canrCOt wait to get
    started on this new journey.rCY

Indian actor and film producer Abhishek Bachchan is a part-owner of the
league in conjunction with Rules Sport Tech, a private Indian company.
The tournament will be run with the collaboration of the cricket boards
of the Netherlands, Ireland and Scotland with teams based out of
Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Glasgow and Belfast.

Teams have been sold for a 10-year period with the inaugural season
scheduled to be held from August 26 to September 20.

The Amsterdam Flames franchise is co-owned by former Australian captain
Steve Waugh and hockey legend Jamie Dwyer and businessman Tim Thomas. It
will be led by Mitchell Marsh in the first edition.

The Edinburgh Castle Rockers are co-owned by former New Zealand
cricketers Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum, with Mitchell Santner named
    as skipper.

The Irish Wolves, based out of Belfast, are co-owned by Aussie cricketer
Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund, former Group Chief Executive Officer of
NRMA, an Australia-based insurance company. The former is slated to lead
    the side as well.

I think the bit I've snipped says that they are co-owners rather than
being the sole owners. Though I'm sure that they have all made plenty of
money from cricket, I doubt that they could have afforded to buy a team
on their own. I imagine that the investors putting up the majority of
the money will have been keen to have a big name on board, to help with
    the publicity.

It will be interesting to see if the ETPL manages to take off. Meanwhile
I see that Mumbai Indians are having an unusually hard time of it in the
IPL. I hope that when the Hundred gets underway MI London (the former
Oval Invincibles and hence "my" team because of the Surrey connection)
    will do better.

The County Championship is now in progress. Jimmy Anderson, playing in Division 2 for Lancashire, seems as effective as ever at the age of 44.

    Yep, they are co-owners.

I am NOT sure IF English public will like the name and have the same
affinity to the name "MI London" as much as they had for Oval
Invincibles since "I" in MI stands for Indians.

The name Mumbai Indians London also sounds illogical and WEIRD.

Me neither. It's not the "I" that I object to but the lack of "Oval" or "Surrey". Surrey retains a 51% stake, but presumably MI wouldn't agree
to put up their 49% unless they got naming rights. I'd have been happy
with "MI Oval", but maybe they think that there are cricket followers
who don't know where The Oval is located.

Agreed. Presumably it's branded as "MI London" rather than "Mumbai
Indians London" to make the weirdness not quite so obvious.

Jonty Rhodes, Du Plessis and Klassen are CO-OWNERS of Rotterdam ETPL team.

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/etpl-2026-faf-du-plessis-heinrich-klaasen-and-jonty-rhodes-buy-rotterdam-franchise-1534670

To "align with one of the best T20 leagues in the world", build
something "that is very South African", and get a chance to "grow
European cricket" were some of the reasons Faf du Plessis chose to
co-own a team at the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), which will
debut in the cricket calendar in August this year. Du Plessis, along
with Jonty Rhodes and Heinrich Klaasen, have formed a consortium to
acquire the Rotterdam franchise in the six-team league, a 33-game
tournament to run from August 26 to September 20 in Ireland, Scotland
    and the Netherlands.

Du Plessis and Klaasen will not just co-own the team but will also play
for it, with du Plessis the captain.

Rotterdam became the fifth ETPL franchise to be sold after Amsterdam
(backed by Steve Waugh), Belfast (co-owned by Glenn Maxwell), Edinburgh (backed by Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum) and Glasgow (co-owned by
Chris Gayle). Dublin is the sixth team in the tournament.

The likes of Steven Smith, Mitchell Santner, Mitchell Marsh and Scott
Edwards are already pencilled in for the ETPL, while there are talks
ongoing with Tim David to take part. With a solid list of international
stars already locked in, for Klaasen, it was a "no-brainer" when the opportunity arose to co-own a franchise.
