• Poms to Win T2!

Or possibly draw it. An Oz win was ruled out about an hour ago as soon
as I put money on them... (1.59).

Btw... There's already been one upset result in this series. With so
many porcelain quicks being named in T1 there wasn't a single dollar
wagered on Usman K to be the first player to breakdown during a Test.

Stokes with a suicidal run out and Jamie Smith with a big gap between
bat and pad gave away the advantage to the Ozzies.

Thanks to Archer's improbable contribution - and of course Root's
masterclass - in the end England probably had just the better of the
day. IIRC the average score by the side batting first in day/night Tests
at the Gabba is 290, and the side batting first has won two out of the
three matches. But that could be a little misleading, as apparently the
grass on the pitch has been cut ahorter for this Test. Apart from the excellent Starc, Australia's bowling for the most part didn't look very threatening, and leaving out Lyon is already looking like a mistake.

I wonder if the "West Australian" newspaper, which a couple of weeks ago tagged Root as "Average Joe", will have enough of a sense of humour to headline their report on the day's play with "Better Than Average Joe".

Disagree. It was the way that the Oz No Brains Trust directed the
back-up quicks that was the mistake. In Doggert & Neser we have two meds
who have built their careers on good old line and length bowling. Why
the hell the NBT decided that they (and Green) should try and bounce
batters out was nuts. *Especially* as our fastest bowler didn't have to
follow the same game plan. It went from nuts a pile of vomit that
Foxtel/NSW cheerentary warbled their beaks off on what a tactical genius
    Smith is.

Speaking of NSW... Trying to avoid the Fox propaganda, I was trying to
think of the last time that the Oz XI only had two Blues (of any tinge)
in it. Am thinking that it quite possibly goes back to the 1970s.

I wonder if the "West Australian" newspaper, which a couple of weeks ago tagged Root as "Average Joe", will have enough of a sense of humour to headline their report on the day's play with "Better Than Average Joe".

Given that media in WA, including the 'West Australian', is controlled
by one Kerry Stokes, the local, even worse version of Murdoch, I doubt it.

And one last thing... Is the lovely Isa heavily duffed? Or has she just
    porked up?

I thought England can get to 400 when Brook and Root were batting at 176/3.

Brook hesitated to run the previous ball on Root's call and then got distracted and flayed at a very wide ball while rooted to the crease and
    gave a catch to Smith.

Me thinks, that was the "turning point" for England not getting to 400
    I1 score.

Ozzie media was playing psychological games on Joe Root I guess.

Yeah, it was a classy century from Root and I hope England wins this
test "somehow" and make the series competitive.

Thanks David, outstanding research/programming. If this trend
of Diminishing Blues continues then 'our' cricket broadcasters are going
to really struggle to fill their Howardcommontary (sic) gangs...

    For those lucky enough to not have 'our' Foxtel cheerentary, it comprises;

Alan Border ex NSW (and suffering badly from Parkinsons now).
    Isa Guha - Ex Eng
    Brendon Julian - ex WA
    Kerry O'Keefe - ex NSW
    Brett Lee - ex NSW
The Worst Behaved Test Cricketer in Aust History - ex NSW
    Mark Waugh - ex NSW
Mark Howard - Professional broadcaster (Vic)
    Brad Haddin - ex NSW
    M Vaughan - ex Eng

"stiff competition"???? He wins by the length of the straight *and* the
    last turn. Hints:

    * Not once, but twice sent abusive texts to well known Oz journos.

    * Had to be physically restrained off-field from assaulting an opponent
    during a Test.

    * Threw a punch at Joe Root in a pub.

    * Organised some (inept) ball-tampering in a Test match.

His contract with Fox is long-term and worth millions. Go figure.

Well I don't remember ever hearing about points 1 and 2 or else had
forgotten. And if his story was true that he threw the punch at Root
because he thought Root's fake beard was because he was mocking Hashim
Amla then, while it doesn't make it right, it makes him more stupid then
evil. Of course there's no excuse for the ball tampering.
