• Poor Germany!

Not a heading I ever expected to use in this group. To be more precise,
it's the German women's T20 team that I feel sorry for. They've been
playing in a competition with the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy.
Yesterday they played the Dutch, who made 255-3 in their 20 overs, to
which Germany replied with 53 all out in 17.2 overs. And today, against Ireland, it was arguably even worse: Ireland 223-1, Germany 44-8. If
none of their players wants ever to play the game in future, it would be
    hard to blame them.

They played Italy today which, not surprisingly, they found a little
    easier. Germany 108-4 (20.0) Italy 109-2 (14.0)

Well the Netherlands seem to take it fairly seriously. They aren't quite
as good as Ireland but aren't far short. But I agree that they are
    pretty much the exception.

Germany today played the Netherlands for a second time, and did much
    better:

    Netherlands 175-4 (20.0) Germany 110-1 (20.0)

It looks like they must be learning quickly.

Most netherlands cricket team players are expatriates from England,
    India and Ireland.

Even though Netherlands caused some upsets in ODI and T20 world cups,
native dutch people aren't taking cricket seriously enough, me thinks.

Surprisingly not. The number of ODIs and T20Is that NL play increased substantially around 2019, so almost half of their 272 matches have been played in the last 6 years, despite Covid. 2019 was more or less the end
of Ten Doeschate's international career (he played 2 matches in 2021).
He also went for over 7 years without playing any ODIs or T20Is between
2011 and 2018. His 57 matches only put him 20th on the list.

    Thanks, David.

He must surely have been the greatest ever Dutch player, whether you
define that as anyone who has played for the Netherlands or restrict it
to those who were "genuinely" Dutch.

    England, India and Ireland.

Far more from South Africa, I think. Of their last men's team, who
played Italy in July, Max O'Dowd is from NZ, Scott Edwards from
Tonga (raised in Aus) and Roelof van der Merwe from SA, but Bas de
Leede, Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren were all born in NL. CI does
not give-a birtplaces for the others.

Their 11 most capped players in ODIs and T20Is are:

    O'Dowd (NZ)
    Edwards (Tonga)
    Pieter Seelaar (NL)
    van Meekeren (NL)
    Wesley Barresi (SA)
    Peter Borren (NZ)
    de Leede (NL)
    Mudassar Bukhari (Pak)
    van der Merwe (SA)
    Dutt (NL)
    Vikramjit Singh (Ind)

-aIs that just among current players? Otherwise Ryan Ten Deschate
should surely be on the list.

Surprisingly not. The number of ODIs and T20Is that NL play increased
substantially around 2019, so almost half of their 272 matches have
been played in the last 6 years, despite Covid. 2019 was more or less
the end of Ten Doeschate's international career (he played 2 matches
in 2021). He also went for over 7 years without playing any ODIs or
    T20Is between 2011 and 2018.

If the Netherlands were playing all their matches during the English
season during that period, then perhaps his commitment to Essex
    prevented him from playing.

His 57 matches only put him 20th on the list.

    Thanks, David.

He must surely have been the greatest ever Dutch player, whether you
define that as anyone who has played for the Netherlands or restrict it
to those who were "genuinely" Dutch.

That depends on how you define the latter. He is from Port Elizabeth and
grew up in SA, but his father is Dutch. I couldn't find any mention of
    his mother's origins.

Ah, my bad. His name looks so quintessentially Dutch that I'd just
assumed that he was Dutch born and bred.
