Not a heading I ever expected to use in this group. To be more precise,
it's the German women's T20 team that I feel sorry for. They've been
playing in a competition with the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy.
Yesterday they played the Dutch, who made 255-3 in their 20 overs, to
which Germany replied with 53 all out in 17.2 overs. And today, against >Ireland, it was arguably even worse: Ireland 223-1, Germany 44-8. If
none of their players wants ever to play the game in future, it would
be hard to blame them.

I don't think soccer crazy European countries excluding England and
Ireland will EVER TAKE CRICKET SERIOUSLY.

Well the Netherlands seem to take it fairly seriously. They aren't
quite as good as Ireland but aren't far short. But I agree that they
are pretty much the exception.

Most netherlands cricket team players are expatriates from England,
India and Ireland.
Even though Netherlands caused some upsets in ODI and T20 world cups,
native dutch people aren't taking cricket seriously enough, me thinks.

Far more from South Africa, I think. Of their last men's team, who
played Italy in July, Max O'Dowd is from NZ, Scott Edwards from Tonga >(raised in Aus) and Roelof van der Merwe from SA, but Bas de Leede,
Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren were all born in NL. CI does not give >birtplaces for the others.

van Meekeren (NL)
Wesley Barresi (SA)
Peter Borren (NZ)

Is that just among current players? Otherwise Ryan Ten Deschate should surely be on the list.

prevented him from playing.

He must surely have been the greatest ever Dutch player, whether you
define that as anyone who has played for the Netherlands or restrict it
to those who were "genuinely" Dutch.

That depends on how you define the latter. He is from Port Elizabeth
and grew up in SA, but his father is Dutch. I couldn't find any mention
of his mother's origins.
