Thinking ahead to Australia

I've been thinking about who might be selected for England's squad to go
to Australia this (northern hemisphere) winter. I started with nine of
the eleven who played at Old Trafford. The exceptions are Woakes and
Dawson, though you could make a case for either being included.
Woakes has always been ineffective abroad, but Australian pitches seem
to be far more bowler-friendly that they used to be. Also there will be
one day-night match using a pink ball, where he might be handy. Dawson's bowling has been steady, but he was disappointingly unpenetrative in the second innings. Also left-arm finger spinners have a poor record in
Australia. However if they think they need someone to "hold an end"
while the quicks rotate at the other end, he could be the man to do it.
If they take neither Woakes nor Dawson, then they will need seven more
players to complete a party of sixteen. Atkinson, Wood, Bashir and
Bethell are I think almost sure to be chosen, assuming they are fit. The
other three could be Rehan Ahmed (who has done brilliantly this season
for Leicestershire with both bat and ball, admittedly in the second
division), either Josh Tongue or Jamie Overton, and Jordan Cox.
