Vaughan calls for change in substitution rule after Rishabh PantrCOs injury

At least Archie's dad was talking about cricket, unlike yesterday
afternoon, when, for some time, he was more interested in a Michael van
Gerwen lookalike in the stands and the song that the crowd was singing
at him. It seemed like he would rather have been down there singing with
    the crowd than commentating.

After Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant met with another injury
and was forced out of the ground, this time during the fourth Test of
the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England at Old Trafford
in Manchester, former England captain Michael Vaughan has voiced support
for a slight adjustment in the substitution rule.

rCLI donrCOt like the fact that werCOve got four days left in the game, four days of action in what has been an incredible series where we are going
to have 10 versus 11,rCY Vaughan said to BBC Sports.

rCLI prefer that yourCOd have a sub. You know, once they brought in concussion subs, I was crying out, saying, rCyWell, just have
substitutions then in the first innings of a game.rCO That would be my stepping point. If it happens in the second innings, I feel that team
might kind of break the rules or indulge in a bit of skullduggery.

I don't think that would work. E.g. Under that rule, if Stokes had been injured just before he was out yesterday, England would have been
allowed to replace him with a fresh player to bowl in India's second
innings in the knowledge that, with a huge lead, the replacement was
unlikely to be needed much for batting. However, if Rahul or Gill had
been injured by the first ball they faced in the second innings, India wouldn't have been allowed to replace them. That hardly seems fair.

Match referee should be able to FAIRLY decide whether an injured player
can be REPLACED or NOT depending on the game situation.

Stokes shouldn't be replaced in the scenario you mentioned.

Even though it's subjective, some cases like Rishabh Pant is quite
obvious and hence can be replaced.

IF Stokes injury is similar to Pant's, yes he can be replaced.

As long as he is NOT faking the injury, replacement should be fine.
