The Met Office forecast for SE England - issued I think at 05:00 - had
merely mentioned the chance of sleet on high ground. In common with a
number of other places, we had an hour or so of quite heavy snow this
morning, which gave a cover of about 1-2 cm on the grass and even
settled a bit on tarmac. It had started as rain before turningto sleet
and then snow, so I imagine that evaporative cooling (I think the term
is) was involved.
