On February 15, 2023, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen made an unannounced visit to the published address of the headquarters of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) at 1201 Connecticut Ave NW Ste 600 in Washington, DC. Companies House have the power to change a registered office if it is shown to tehm that teh address on file is incorrect. what they can do is change it back to a previous one, so you could write to them explaining.
Easy to say now, but you should have arranged a change of address when you disengaged. You had a second chance by holding on to the CT code until they had changed the address. You now have no leverage now to force them to change.
Companies (Address of Registered Office) Regulations 2016 - the regulations, with new section 1097A of the Companies Act 2006 (Rectification of register relating to company registered office), will introduce a new procedure to allow the registrar of companies to change the registered office of a company or limited liability partnership where, following an application by any person, the registrar considers that the entity is not authorised to use that address. If the entity fails to provide adequate evidence that it is entitled to use the address, the registrar must change the address of the registered office to a default address (a PO Box at Companies House).
I see a commercial opportunity arising here (or at least an incentive for the client to change the registered office).
Send the client a note saying that a monthly fee will be charged for the registered office facility, and if unpaid within a set timescale your contract terms mean that you will change the registered office to the client's director's home address.

But seriously legal under the Post Office Act 1953 you have the right to refuse mail, i.e. return to sender, and it is illegal to open it is addressed to someone else, which as you are no longer their agent must apply, so return to sender it is.
Maybe a letter / email to the client stating that you note that, following your request, your address remains on record at Companies House (and presumably HMRC if you received the CT code). Would your client please rectify this by, say, 31 December (to allow for Christmas post). If the address has not been changed by this date then you will be writing to Co House to advise them that the address held on record is incorrect and all post received for your client will be returned to sender as no longer at this address regardless of who that sender is. Also state that you will not be held liable for any penalties or fines incurred as a result of not acting upon this request.
