I was at a gig tonight and the performer was selling CDs of his music.
    I thought "how old school".

Not having bought music from a shop for many years, I wondered whether
you can buy 'albums' on a memory stick?

BTW I know can load from CD my pc or to a memory stick to use in my car,
    but then I have a CD I don't need.

I have not seen that but I have been provided album downloads
    a few times.

I think Korean KPOP groups do something like that called a 'Smart Album'. Usually a keyring sized cd case with a QR code to a digital download on
it, however I've never seen a UK version of it myself.

You can buy individual tracks from Amazon up to 99p a pop then make your
    own thumbdrive.

That's an amazing invention but who would ever want to use one of them? (President Hayes speaking to Alexander Graham Bell on the invention of the telephone)

Not recently, but I did hear of one album release that was done on USB
stick rather than CD because of the size. IIRC, it was the complete
works of J. S. Bach. I think they said that the number of CDs required
    would have been 96.

I haven't seen any for sale, it might have been a viable format if Internet downloads hadn't superseded it. The niche it would fit never materialised.
