    Crikey.

I was there that year on my 650 AJS 31CSR. Camped at Mrs Kelly's (who
else) orchard in Sulby Glen. A memory of watching 'On Any Sunday' at the cinema in the Strand.

What the hell are they all drenched in by the end of lap 5? Is that how

I've only dipped into it, but skipped to the end to see what you might
mean, and I can't see anything that looks like "drenched". The front
of the bikes are covered in flies

Can you give me the timestamp, please?

If it's just flies then the death of the planet really has been
happening over the last 50 years hasn't it?

I only very occasionally smack a wasp, but then I guess I'm only going
    half the speed they are.

The front of the helmet is definitely flies. The fairing might have
some oil on it too, but also lots and lots of flies

It's not just the speed that makes the difference (re insect strikes)
in road racing. You are literally riding from curb to curb, and in
plenty of places the curbs just about *in* the hedges - which is where
    the insects are

I've always thought the use of tear-offs at short circuits are
something of an affectation. In road racing, they're almost essential

Fair, that makes sense. Are flies part of the woodland alliance then?
