ring A&D in Denbigh to check their policy. I bought the Guzzi there and
they have the full Piaggio set. Also Royal Enfield for you to compare and contrast. https://maps.app.goo.gl/MyiBEpUsCRqXQQVY6 about 2 hours from you. Sally is Dealer Principal and handles much of the sales.

Also try Frasers in Gloucester. Piaggio and RE. A bit closer to you. https://www.frasersmotorcycles.co.uk/

    Will do.

Seems to be a general thing for 'new bike demonstrators'. Might be OK if
I could track down a used one. Potteries motorcycles claimed to have an
ex demo one for sale at a very considerable saving but on inquiring told
it was sold, but they could order a new one. A bait and switch tactic I suppose.

Quite. Mind you, they may not check and all would be well as long as you
don't have an incident - in which case I presume you would not be
insured at all. Apparently the Peter James VMCC scheme policy
specifically excludes this scenario. Perhaps TP only in theory under
CIHAGM cover, but not an expensive single vehicle incident.

When I bought a new Morini Strada in 1975 on the basis of a road test on
a demo bike, the next person to ride it, binned it. Devimead went after
them for the cost of repairs. He claimed it was unridable and dangerous because of the front brake (2LS). They phoned me to ask how I found it.

"Very powerful" was my reply. To be fair they could be a bit sharp until bedded in a bit - particularly if only used to tobacco tin brakes on a
British bike. The Morini 350 I hill climbed, way back when, had the same
brake to begin with, but it had been set up by a twin leading shoe
brakes expert before I got the bike I used for the project.

Up to 31st March registration to get the special Aprilia deal on offer

Funny how some things stick in your memory. While one never had any
need to remember one's driver number, mine (UK one, I mean, which of
course I haven't used for 25 years) just sprang straight to mind
instantly when you mentioned it. Started with first five letters of
surname, then DoB slightly munged as you say, ended with initials and

They also add 5 to the first digit of MM for laydeez. I think the

Its not comfortable ( for me) to have my knee locked in to deep an angle
    away from 90degrees.

This is why the Pegs have highway bars and the I use the engine bars on
the XJR to stretch my left leg out.

30 years of rugby took its toll on me :-(

    Until last year I owned a R1200RS

    https://cycle-ergo.com/ shows a 21 deg lean forward

this aggravates my wonky right hip to the extent that after 70 miles I want
to stop riding for a while. For a few years I amended the ergonomics by lowering footpegs and fitting bar risers. This made things better but I
guess my hip has got worse. It is only riding some bikes that aggravates
the hip, no other aspect of my daily living

    I now ride a Moto Guzzi V85
Zero forward lean, little hip pain and it is my bladder that dictates the
time to stop. Usually half a tank of fuel at 150 miles on NSL type roads.

The 450 Aprilia is not listed but other Tuono variants have 23 degrees of forward lean

I cannot speak for Bruce's situation.

I started driving (off-road) at age 12 in an Anglia 105e. I've still
    got the key: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dyAsms7bTV2thw4j6

    I also got a real motorcycle soon after, a 1966 Honda S65,
about which was claimed: "... runs away from most 65cc
    machines.". https://imgur.com/zabj6Ny

I was legal to drive on the road at age 15, if accompanied by a
parent or guardian. On the way home from the registrar's office
after getting my permit on my 15th birthday, I told my dad it was
time we switched seats so I could drive (1971 Chevrolet Vega). Got
my provisional license at 16, ASAP.

I have zero understanding of kids these days who aren't getting their
driver's licenses at the earliest possible date, of course for some
there are financial reasons, mom & dad don't have a car, etc. But
back then, in the 70s, it was unheard of not to get your license as
soon as you could. In fact, 'driver's ed' was a normal class during
    the school day.

Honestly, I envy people who live in a situation where owning a
car would be optional. Around here, even in the center of the
Minneapolis/St. Paul metro, going car-free can be a challenge, as
buses and light rail are infrequent and offer far less geographical

Going to see if the place that did the MoT on the 401 can suggest a

I find the car et al useful but having moved within the bounds of London not indispensable. TBF that was part of the reason for the move, there were other factors. Since her strokes madam had lost all confidence and ability driving, scares the willies out of me when she did. I have AMD currently treatable but that may snooker the driving in the future.

The lad was riding a motorcycle on private land from 6 but has yet to do
    his CBT.

He had his first driving lesson the day after his 17th birthday. Lots of pursuits that aren't really doable on public transport. Currently living
in London and running the gauntlet of the congestion zone but has put a deposit on a house near Bedford (his job is remote working with just one
day a week in central London office).

That should make the running costs for his SUV slightly less
eye-watering - even with diesel at HFM for the foreseeable future. The
house has a garage, so I suspect he may do direct access for a bike
licence (much against his mother's wishes).

The main problem with the bars is that they are too straight. Forces my shoulders in to an uncomfortable position for the creaky joints. Need to be swept back a bit. The adjustable bars on the Moroni are perfect. Ace type
but not too low. Sweep is just right, or perhaps years of riding it have
caused my shoulders to take a set. Thumb joints also suffer quickly with Svartpilen off-road style braced bars.

They are similar to the OEM ones on a Morini 250. Problem is the Husky
401 are 'Fat' tapered bars. So '1 inch' at the yoke clamps and 7/8 at
    the controls.

I'm Googling for something similar that might fit. Nobody on the 401/701 Facebook group has suggested anything they have used, as yet.

Motech do some natty looking ones, but the website says they wonrCOt fit. Adjustable 'clip-ons' might work, but would be too low, and I don't
fancy that as a DIY job.

    https://www.motea.uk/motorcycle-clip-on-handlebars-zaddox-vario-with-riser-for-50mm-forks-aluminium-dplu-a566769-0

The risers Wessie suggests would possibly be better but would not
address the root problem, which is the wideness and straightness of the MX/Enduro style braced bars.

I have zero understanding of kids these days who aren't getting their
driver's licenses at the earliest possible date

my lad is 35, no driving licence

One of V's sons is 33, also no licence. And he doesn't live in a
    city, either.

    The world is changing

One of my sons is 39, no car licence - but he does have a motorcycle one :-)

Actually he's had it ever since he could possibly hold one!

he has a partner who has a car. He has always lived in a suburb of the Portsmouth conurbation he has never thought about driving as a necessity.
He works shifts including weekends but there are buses 24/7 and ubers.

My stepson is 30 with no driving licence. He has quite severe dyspraxia
so his distance perception is poor, and several driving instructors said
he wouldn't be safe to drive. He did ride a motorcycle until someone in
a 4x4 helped him into a ditch and he broke his scapula, after which he
decided he wouldn't any more, but a motorcycle and rider are the same
width, unlike a car and driver.
