I used to post on a major Excel forum, few years back, which ranked
users by the quality of their answers. I got up to about #20 on the site
but, honestly, the guys above me were mind-blowing. Reading their
responses to queries that I'd written off as impossible was an education.
Plus, Excel has changed a lot in the last few years, and I don't really
use it enough now to keep pace with all the whizzy stuff. I've still got
a sheet I cobbled together a couple of years ago, that transforms a data
set we regularly export to a new format, via a sheet with 30,000 rows x
100 columns of formula, that I haven't got around to converting to work
with Excel's new functionality.
I'm just a fraud these days, is what I'm saying. I'm like a footballer
from the 60s, fat and sporting a comb-over, saying, "It's a completely different game these days. Look at the goalie, he's not even smoking!"
