• Embryo figs over winter - current thinking

    From David@wibble@btinternet.com to uk.rec.gardening on Sat Mar 28 15:26:24 2026

Back in the day we were told that the little figs left at the end of the
year would develop into the next year's figs.

Then we were told that this was wrong and they should all be removed.

Now I am reading again that the embryo figs at the end of the year form
    next year's figs.

    What does the team think?

    Cheers

    Some do, some don't.

And that is the problem with Teams :-)

We have a number of gardeners from Madiera on our allotment site and
I've noticed none of them remove those embryo figs from their trees.
I cannot see what harm it does to leave them on, if they get frosted or damaged they will drop off anyway.
