For those of us that know or know of this nursery it's sad to advise
that it will be closing for good on the 31st July as Ray's son Mathew
Hubbard will be retiring. End of an era and another lovely nursery gone.

Haven't been there for many years. I believe that it's around 10 years
since Sacha posted anything to this NG.

I visit my favourite nursery - MacPennys - two or three times a year
(it's about a 40 minute drive). I was chatting to one of the senior
people there, saying that it was a "proper" nursery, and not a garden
centre, as it had an extensive range of unusual plants which it
propagates itself. The reply was quite sad - "We're a dying breed". :-(

Happening everywhere, certainly devastated the Orchid Nurseries some
years ago. Wylde Court, Thatched Lodge, Stonehurst, all gone with only
McBeans and Burnham Nurseries of the old school left.

Been in touch with Sacha, apparently not financial, but Matthew (Rays
son) has had enough, but it is a shame, being taken around behind the
scenes by Ray was a real treat, although Matthew ran the place perfectly
well he didnt have that strange affliction that both Ray and I suffer
from - the desire to grow plants that dont sell but are interesting!!

He'll probably be glad to get the place to himself :-)

I see all the business equipment and plants are
    being sold at auction.
