• Aphids

They seem to be particularly bad this year, especially as very few
ladybirds appear to be around. Although some roses are affected as
usual, even worse is the effect they are having on buddlejas. Three
plants have shrivelled tips, and they might not flower. A fourth /B. glomerata/ rCySilver ServicerCO seems unaffected.

Anyone else finding aphids on plants not usually associated with them?
The RHS is interested in aphids on buddlejas (<https://www.rhs.org.uk/biodiversity/aphids-on-buddleja>).

Not on mine, but it was nearly killed by the last two winters.

The greenfly are bad on the roses and clematis, some aphid is
bad on some of the currants (but not all), and the blackfly
were briefly bad on the broad beans, but a combination of
praying and ladybirds has more-or-less eliminated them for now.
All that is exactly as has happened for the past 40 years.

    Regards,
    Nick Maclaren.

I don't have any blackfly but something very unpleasant
is taking over the USA and threatening to infest adjacent
    areas.

Don't know about that but a good soaking from a spray bottle of very weak washing up liquid solution (couple of drops per pint), followed by some manual 'wiping', did the trick here. Roses absolutely caked in greenfly.
