• Recovering soil from turf

I have just relaid our lawn. Lift existing lawn with turf cutter,
rotovate, level and lay new turf. But, because the old lawn was far from
level the turves that I lifted are mostly thicker than they should be.
What would be the best (for which read easiset) way of recovering the
excess soil from each turf so as to minimise what needs to be composted?

If it stays dry, put them upside down on a tarpaulin (or other surface).
Leave to dry for a few days and rake the dried soil out. The tarpaulin
just makes it a bit easier to collect the soil.
