Wandring round the garden I noticed that my early rhubarb crown has
started sprouting, presumably because of the mild weather. The question
is, what should I do about it, if anything? I do not think covering it
will work, as being fairly high up, we do get (usually) quite a lot of frost.Just hoping that it will survive!

Ah, not the gardening poet the subject led me to expect. I am letting my rhubarb take its chances but I am in Hampshire, low down, north of the
South Downs. I too would welcome any advice that would improve the outlook.

No, sorry, my fingers are sometimes disobedient, otherwise my brain is
    not working again.

I've just covered ours, which haven't started to sprout, with three inches
of compost. I'm hoping it will provide some frost protection of keep the surrounding grass at bay, as well as feeding the plant. The jackdaws will likely move much of it.
