• Denon RCD-M38DAB CD/receiver - Replacement for RC-1127 remote control

    From Andrew Marshall@news@y-ddraenog-goch.org.uk to uk.rec.audio on Thu Dec 22 19:36:42 2022
    From Newsgroup: uk.rec.audio

I have a Denon RCD-M38DAB, which uses a RC-1127 remote control. The CD/receiver itself is fine, but the RC-1127 remote control is prone to failure.

The third example has just failed, after a couple of years, in the same
way as the original and its replacement, with button after button
failing to operate, until only a few, if any, function.

Please, does anyone know of a reliable replacement, either a
programmable generic model or a dedicated one?

    TIA.

We have a M40 for which the remote is RC-1204 but looks to do the same functions as yours. Never had a moments problem with it in 5-+ years.

If it is suitable there is one on eBay item 384068226734 for -u7.90 free postage as I type.

I wonder whether the RC-1127 might be an exception to the rule; I'll do
a search for RC-1204 and see whether there any ads for replacements.

Thanks - I'll do some more searching and take a look at that.

Ah the conductive rubber hardening problem again. I've had loads of remotes
go this way. They most certainly do not like being on window sills or near radiators, but the underlying issue seems to be separation of the conductive layer and hardening and the little pits then get full of debris witch either randomly change things or act as insulators. Its about time remote makers actually made them reliable.

I have an M41DAB bought in 2019 which has an RC-1214 remote.
So far no buttons have stopped working. Not sure if this
remote will work with your model. There cannot be many
differences between them apart maybe from the addition of
    blutooth

Thanks for the link. That one could well be worth a punt. It's
dedicated, has good reviews, and is much cheaper than the original.

I've never bought anything from Amazon before, but there's a first time
    for everything...

    Hi Brian,

I've always kept it on top of the main unit, which may possibly have contributed to the failure due to heat (though that unit barely gets warm).

The life of each replacement, at around two years or so, seems very low
to me - I'd have expected something nearer to the life of the main unit.

I suspect the RC-1127 may be an outlier on reliability, though keeping
it on top of the main unit may not have been wise of me. I'll look into getting an RM one.

    Thanks for the link.

Looking at the failure modes reported there, they seem to differ in
that, in my case, I have had no main-unit malfunctions, and each
replacement RC-1127 has worked perfectly for well over a year, then
gradually started to lose functions buttton-by-button, suggesting that
the remote control is failing rather than the main unit. I'll look into
the RM replacement, and do some searches for that model, before placing
    an order.

I may well try this anyway on the roughest of them. Thanks for the tip.
