I would like to know why the BBC possessed so many video
cassette recorders and players. Loads of Sony Betamax
recorders too.
The ones I noticed were all digital Betamax, not analogue. They are also selling some cameras of the same format. At the beginningof the digital
era, these gave better quality than even high band analogue such as U-Matic.
The ones I wuold be interested in are the DV-Cam recorders, but it
wouo,d cost me far more to go and fetch them than I'd pay for the lot.
As all the equipment is from their archive department, they were
probably copying the digital stuff to hard drive as quickly as possible,
one operator can deal with a number of streams being copied at once, and
the machines were relatively cheap.
