One of the tweeters of my 20 year old ATC SCM10 speakers appears broken - it's
a lot quiter than the other.

I've contacted ATC - they can supply replacements at about -u130. Or I can buy
what they tell me is the same thing - D27TG-35-06 tweeter, by Vifa - elsewhere
for about -u35. So I'll go the 3rd party route. Two questions:

The faceplate of the ATC tweeter is circular, cut level at the bottom, to sit
flush with the woofer. The Vifa is circular. Is it a simple matter to swap the
faceplates and use the original ATC plate with the Vifa gubbins?

There's an equivalent of the (Chinese) Vifa built in Denmark by Scanspeak for
about -u10 more. Would it be worth the extra?

I would say yes. Scanspeak have always made good reliable products.

Ta. I did in fact use the Vifa units when a similar fault developed in some >> SCM7s and they seem fine. They were a straight swap though - same faceplates.

I'll try the Scanspeak this time for the sake of an extra -u20 per pair.

Have you had a look at what Wilmslow Audio have to offer? They used to
be in (would you believe) Wilmslow not far from Mcr airport, but when
the original owner decided to retire the business was bought up and the
moved to a place near Hinkley in SW Leics.

Finally (!) got round to doing it.

Yes, the faceplates simply screw on - so it was an easy swap, the plastic Vifa for the metal ATC. I went with the Vifa because although billed as interchangeable (with the Scanspeak D2606) the specifications do vary. Whether the differences are audible is another thing.

Thanks for the Wilmslow link. Good to see them still going, I'd used them in the past but stuck with Willy's this time.
