"Already famous for writing the Thomas the Tank Engine books, he offered
to help as a guard on the train."

So what did he do after becoming a volunteer? Hop in a Tardis and go
back and start writing the books...

I would suggest that there are some of your favourite 'invisible words' in
the headline - either "some rCa storylines" or "author", depending on your taste.

As the article says, after volunteering there he then added some
Talyllyn-based characters and storylines to subsequent books in the series.

Indeed, so the important missing words are:

"Railway which inspired ***characters in later editions of*** Thomas
the Tank Engine [books] marks 75 years since becoming world first"

Meanwhile, we have the railways which inspired the original books. Due
to my age, and reading the early books, I've several First Editions,
although none in particularly good condition.

I have been watching some of the TV comedy series that is set around the
time of the Beeching closures - 'Oh, Dr Beeching' I think.

It could almost be considered a documentary about British Railways!

Richard Spendlove, one of the writers, worked for BR for many years
