    Yes, of course, but he is such a prolific poster usually.
    It seems unlikely for him to go away without telling us.

    I had a few days when Eternal September wasn't giving me any updates, so
    I couldn't tell if there were posts that I hadn't seen or posts that

    It is now working normally again and unfortunately it looks like the latter.

    No!! Tha's missed nowt Peter, it's just the vagaries of RL interfering
    with my playtime. Of course the increased onset of laziness in ever
    growing proportions has also contributed. I hope all those concerned

    I think the main problem we have (I certainly do, anyway) is AAADD - Age activated attention Deficit Disorder. A summary goes a tad like this :-

    I decide to water my flower tubs in the front garden.

    As I go to turn on the hose I look over at my car and decide it needs
    washing.

    I go to get the car keys from the porch and then notice the post on the
    porch table.

    I decide to go through the post before I wash the car.

    I put my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the bin under the
    table, and notice that the bin is full.

    So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the rubbish first.

    But then I think, I can run down to the post-box when I take out the
    rubbish, I may as well pay the bills first.

    I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only 1 cheque
    left.

    My other cheque book is in the computer desk, so I go inside the house
    to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

    I'm going to look for my other cheque book, but first I need to push the
    Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

    The Coke is getting warm so I decide to put it in the fridge to keep it
    cold.

    As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the
    window ledge catches my eye--they need water.

    I put the Coke on the window ledge and discover my reading glasses that
    I've been searching for all morning.

    I decide I'd better put them back on my computer desk, but first I'm
    going to water the flowers.

    I put the glasses back down on the window ledge, fill a container with
    water and suddenly spot the TV remote. I must have have left it on the kitchen table.

    I realise that tonight when I go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the
    remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide
    to put it back in the living room where it belongs, but first I'll water
    the flowers.

    I pour some water in the flowers, but some spills on the floor.

    So, I put the remote back on the table, get a towel and wipe up the spill.

    Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

    At the end of the day:

    The flower tubs aren't watered;

    The car isn't washed;

    The bills aren't paid;

    There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the window ledge;

    The flowers in the vase don't have enough water;

    There is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book;

    I can't find the remote;

    I can't find my glasses;

    I have absolutely NO idea what I did with the car keys.

    Then, when I try to work out why nothing got done today, I'm really
    baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired.

    If you find this familiar, I may have mentioned it before - but I just
    can't remember who I've told about it. So tell everyone you see - that
    should cover it.

    and not seen on alt.happy.valley since 15th July

    Thank you.
    That's a bit worrying, unless he has had computer problems of course.

    I've always had, got and I suppose will always suffer from computer and
    modern IT problems Peter.-a IT dyslexia is a permanent cross I have to
    bear.-a ;)

    I know the feeling.
    I was never 'taught' about operating computers, or programming them, but in the
    paid work situation I had to learn by trial and error. Of course there was an IT
    department for sorting out major problems.

    I have a husband who knew all that stuff, but said husband insisted the other day on plugging the memory card from my camera into a card reader on his laptop
    to see properly the photos we took at the Battle of Britain Museum in Kent. And
    then copy them.

    And when I got home and went to copy all the photos I took on holiday with said
    camera, numbers 576 to 632 were missing. The last few were there. Somehow he didn't delete quite all of them.

    Not lost of course, they are on his laptop, but he was convinced they were there
    "somewhere" on the card which now has several folders ( it starts a new one every so often after a number of photos have been taken) , and when searching, it seems I these days know more about folders in File explorer than he does!

    Yes, of course, but he is such a prolific poster usually.
    It seems unlikely for him to go away without telling us.
    Let's hope you are correct.

    I hope both him and Mollie are okay.

    No!! Tha's missed nowt Peter, it's just the vagaries of RL
    interfering with my playtime. Of course the increased onset of
    laziness in ever growing proportions has also contributed. I hope
    all those concerned will be reassured and are keeping well
    themselves. Just an aside, but both Mollie and 1-eyed Marvin seem
    fine too, but Marvin's visits are decreasing a little, 2 or 3
    visits each week nowadays.
    It's great to hear from you again.
    I agree that RL can make a big difference.

    As can that genetically inherited conditon of 'Bone idleness'. I
    think it's defined as poor mental health these days. Apparently the
    majority of folk suffer from it.

    I think the main problem we have (I certainly do, anyway) is AAADD -
    Age activated attention Deficit Disorder. A summary goes a tad like
    this :-
    I decide to water my flower tubs in the front garden.

    As I go to turn on the hose I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

    I go to get the car keys from the porch and then notice the post on
    the porch table.

    I decide to go through the post before I wash the car.

    I put my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the bin under the
    table, and notice that the bin is full.

    So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the
    rubbish first.

    But then I think, I can run down to the post-box when I take out the
    rubbish, I may as well pay the bills first.

    I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only 1
    cheque left.

    My other cheque book is in the computer desk, so I go inside the house
    to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

    I'm going to look for my other cheque book, but first I need to push
    the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

    The Coke is getting warm so I decide to put it in the fridge to keep
    it cold.

    As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the
    window ledge catches my eye--they need water.

    I put the Coke on the window ledge and discover my reading glasses
    that I've been searching for all morning.

    I decide I'd better put them back on my computer desk, but first I'm
    going to water the flowers.

    I put the glasses back down on the window ledge, fill a container with
    water and suddenly spot the TV remote. I must have have left it on
    the kitchen table.

    I realise that tonight when I go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the
    remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I
    decide to put it back in the living room where it belongs, but first
    I'll water the flowers.

    I pour some water in the flowers, but some spills on the floor.

    So, I put the remote back on the table, get a towel and wipe up the
    spill.
    Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to
    do.
    At the end of the day:

    The flower tubs aren't watered;

    The car isn't washed;

    The bills aren't paid;

    There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the window ledge;

    The flowers in the vase don't have enough water;

    There is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book;

    I can't find the remote;

    I can't find my glasses;

    I thought that was merely reality Bob.
    But there other rather stresfull things going on too.
    Eldest in Oz ,now 55, had a scheduled hip replacement on Tuesday 5th August. He was let to home on Saturday 9th August. On Wednesday 13th,
    after 1 hour 45 minutes emergency treatment by paramedics at home he was rushed back into ED, diagnosed with 'compartment syndrome' : something
    I'd never heard of before, but apparently it can have very serious
    outcomes. It's something that happens often after severe trauma
    sustained in, car crashes with crush injuries and often following
    traumatic surgery. After several blood transfusions and an emergency
    surgical procedure on the muscles etc around the original wound site he remained there until around now. Just had a text to say he's just
    arrived home.
    Youngest grand-daughter (19 in December) is recovering from surgery
    for endometreosis and now has massive bowel adhesions to be checked
    again on Wednesday.
    Mollie is showing possible early onset dementia symptoms and also
    seems to have damaged her hip region which has impaired her ability to
    jump on and off low items like chairs, sofas and beds and negotiating
    the stairs. She has an appointment to see the vet tomorrow. Couldn't
    get an appointment for today. It's almost as bad as getting to see your
    GP these days. :(

    Very unpleasant. He should be fine now he's had the fasciotomy, but it's
    very worrying all the same.

    Youngest grand-daughter (19 in December) is recovering from surgery
    for endometreosis and now has massive bowel adhesions to be checked
    again on Wednesday.

    SWMBO knows all about endometriosis and how unpleasant it is. She had
    problems for many years, so sympathy all round for granddaughter!

    Mollie is showing possible early onset dementia symptoms and also

    We didn't have much of a problem getting a vet when Cookie (our
    psychopathic but much beloved tortoiseshell cat) needed one as there are
    quite a few round here, but I remember the size of the bills.
    Granddaughter 3 now has a horse, and the costs seem to go up in
    proportion to weight. That's not the worry though - they are all family members and just as much of a concern as the people themselves. Well,
    they are here, anyway.

    When life had decided to drop it on you from a great height - doesn't it
    do it on a grand scale and with amazing accuracy! Hopefully, that will
    be the lot for you. We had a patch where we lost three youngish
    relatives to cancer in just over a year, so my sympathy with others and
    their problems went up exponentially after that and has stayed at that
    level.

    Regards,

    Bob

    I hope you get better news about all three RL problems soon.
    Your eldest son and youngest granddaughter are, or have been, in the
    best hands, so hopefully recovery, although possibly long winded, is the
    next step.
    Good luck with Mollie tomorrow.

    I hope he is OK.
    Have I missed something?

    As I go to turn on the hose I look over at my car and decide it needs
    washing.

    The flower tubs aren't watered;

    The car isn't washed;

    The bills aren't paid;

    There is a warm can of Coke sitting on the window ledge;

    The flowers in the vase don't have enough water;

    There is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book;

    I can't find the remote;

    I can't find my glasses;

After several blood transfusions and an emergency surgical procedure on the muscles etc around the original wound site he remained there until around now. Just had a text to say he's just
    arrived home.

    I had heard of it but didn't know much about it, glad he is recovering.

    Youngest grand-daughter (19 in December) is recovering from surgery
    for endometreosis and now has massive bowel adhesions to be checked
    again on Wednesday.

    Nasty thing, endometreosis, i don't think it ever goes away, but at least she is
    receiving treatment which should help in the future.

    Poor little Mollie, hope she is as well as she can be.

    And when I got home and went to copy all the photos I took on holiday with said
    camera, numbers 576 to 632 were missing. The last few were there. Somehow he
    didn't delete quite all of them.

    Oh dear kat, I do so hope you have found them by now. I dread losing
    pics as they are irreplaceable. I carry an external SSD drive and copy
    my pics to that, which halves the chance of loss.

    They weren't entirely lost as they were on his laptop, but I really wanted then
    still on the card in my camera. Keep the originals, fix, trim etc those on the pc. The missing photos were some I took at the Battle of Britain Museum in Kent,
    which is an interesting place - and you can only take photos of the things outside, not inside, and with an escort.

    Normally I do this copying, nut I forgot the lead I use to connect the camera. Away for a week in England, didn't feel quite as necessary as when abroad. Anyway he had a lead but for some reason it didn't work so he took the card out
    and used a reader.

    First he transferred the pix to our home server which meant I could get at them
    to organise, properly, but I couldn't copy back to my camera. But he could, used the card reader to put them back. Or so he says, I haven't actually checked...

    Like you, I would copy files but never delete the originals whilst

    I don't think he meant to - he said he thought he had 2 lots on his laptop, or something. As he only deleted some it was all a bit odd.

    Next holiday i shall remember my own lead.:_0

    Meant to say, where did you cruise to?

    It was a Mediterranean cruise, kat.
    I'm just tidying up the html then I'll post a few pics.
    All from my phone as the shutter release on my Panasonic Lumix no
    longer works. I take so few photos these days that it's not worth
    spending on a repair or replacement.

    I take a lot! The Nikon SLr is a bit heavy to cart about sometimes, so as well
    as my phone, to save it's battery a bit, I have a little Coolpix. Mind you the
    phone is better than that, but it can be easier to use!

    Despite the tiny lenses a modern phone is amazing, but I sorely miss
    the viewfinder on a camera.

    Exactly! Especially in sunlight when the screen is barely visible.:-) That is why I have a "proper" camera for those occasions when it works best.
