How many TV stations need to cover the same event with the same pictures?
We have BBC1, BBC2, BBC Parliament, BBC News, BBC Red Button, BBC Wales,
BBC Scotland. Then there's ITV1 (all regions), ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, Sky News, GB News, TalkTV,
Then we have stations like Ideal World not broadcasting at all "in memoriam", and Quest not showing any adverts during their ad breaks.
UK is nuts for state propaganda.
My feeling is that it may be justifiable for broadcasters (BBC, ITV, CH4) to devote one of their channels to live events such as the Queen's funeral, providing a commitment is made to show within n weeks all the programmes
that had been scheduled but were displaced by the unexpected live event.
But what is *not* acceptable is to show the same event on multiple channels
by the same broadcaster (BBC1 and BBC2 and BBC News), or else to show
nothing at all (as most of the broadcasters did immediately after her death was announced). Show coverage of the event, if you think it is appropriate, but don't black out all the other channels.
The "stop all the clocks" approach to a death is something that was probably OTT fifty years ago, and is certainly insulting nowadays.
