With the forthcoming establishment of the NCfID [1] I fear I will not be
able to maintain my deception for much longer, so I am going to come clean.

I am, in fact, a Russian troll (not a bot, as I live and breathe) and
started as a joke in Pravda before establishing my presence in rsa [3]
which we thought would be a funny way of adding "ski" to my handle and
    hiding in plain sight.

Please accept my apologies for wasting your time for so many years, and
please don't report this post a misinformation.

I contend that if the new PM wishes to counter disinformation it should commence in his office by responding at Question Time in the Commons to
those questions with the plain unvarnished truth. No political points,
no blaming second or third parties but merely stating the truth. If he
does not know the answer a commitment to deliver that answer within 24
or 48 hours should be given and honoured. Only by leadership leading
    will people follow.

Ha! If I have anything to do with it, Ze Brritski will not be so lucky
as to be sent into the front line where a well-aimed Ukrainian drone
strike might turn him into mince-meat in half a second. No, like
previous failures of his ilk, he will be sent to Siberia to end his
days surrounded by ice, snow, tundra and abandoned brass monkey balls.
How do I know this? Because before there was Brritski in deep cover,
I, his field officer, had been sent into even deeper cover to monitor
    his actions.

And I'm only telling this now because my cover was blown yesterday
afternoon by one I presume was an MI5 officer in the gents toilets at Huddersfield Bus Station. My fate is likely to be the same - or worse-
than Brritski's. I wonder what gave me away? Was it the secret
    handshake at the urinal?

It's not your hand that you should shake at a urinal, and a Brit would

than Brritski's. I wonder what gave me away? Was it the secret
    handshake at the urinal?

It's not your hand that you should shake at a urinal, and a Brit would
never shake hands there, or indeed before washing their hands.

Must dash, some friends at Lakenheath have called for my assistance.

Aha! So if Fairford is codename Manhattan, you're playing the Berlin

A new mass Army call-up seems on the cards in Russia.
    Good luck.

And I'm only telling this now because my cover was blown yesterday
afternoon by one I presume was an MI5 officer in the gents toilets at
Huddersfield Bus Station. My fate is likely to be the same - or worse-

I contend that if the new PM wishes to counter disinformation it
should commence in his office by responding at Question Time in the
Commons to those questions with the plain unvarnished truth.-a No
political points, no blaming second or third parties but merely
stating the truth.-a If he does not know the answer a commitment to
deliver that answer within 24 or 48 hours should be given and
honoured.-a Only by leadership leading will people follow.

I presume you would expect the same from all other political parties?
The world as we know it would end.

Certainly in this country. I am with Esme - she will not work with liars.

Sorry but political leaders have to lead by example. At the moment they
are allowing the Mayor of Liverpool to buy his trains and the Mayor of Birmingham to buy his buses and yet when it is obvious that the state
should own all the trains the Treasury says no. Mayors should not be
allowed to do things which the Government says it cannot do. The same
    rules should apply to everyone.

Take today as an example. A farmer reports three vans in the middle of
the night, the police descend, arrest 5 people and move villagers to a
sport centre as it is no longer safe to be there.

Donald Trump says they have had these bad men under surveillance for
some time and they were stopped before they could do anything.

Now either the farmer is telling porkies or the US surveillance was not sharing intelligence with UK because they do not trust us. Or someone
else is not telling the truth.

The 2 are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Note that we granted

for some time and they were stopped before they could do anything.

Now either the farmer is telling porkies or the US surveillance was >>>>> not sharing intelligence with UK because they do not trust us.-a Or >>>>> someone else is not telling the truth.

Or 3) the security services don't want to say what they already
knew. There were reports that something was happening there even
before the farmer spotted the men.

There are - but the base were not answering the telephone so the
farmer phoned the police. The base were not answering the phone so do
not appear to have been on high alert.

Was the phone residents were supposed to call on the base ?
    Not necessarily.

And the base could have been deliberately kept in the dark, literally
    and figuratively....>
    Or were on lockdown.

More worrying (to me, and I may be AOU) is the way that in spite of
the police asking people not to speculate Nigel Farage was straight
out of the traps claiming the five men had all crossed the channel in
small boats. Now they have been confirmed as British nationals will he
    apologise?
The 2 are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Note that we granted
asylum protection, and then British citizenship, to a former bodyguard
of a leader of Hamas. He maybe didn't come over on a small boat, but I
bet plenty who did now have have British citizenship.

Again, more speculation. In another statement (which didn't appear to
contain an apology) Farage has hinted that he knows something about the situation the rest of us don't. My guess (see, I can speculate as well)
is that a) he doesn't and b) his supporters will see this as a
justification for his earlier dog whistle.

For the avoidance of doubt, should (any of) the five men arrested
eventually prove to be small boat migrants subsequently granted
citizenship, consider me to have apologised in advance.

I have thought for some years, probably decades, that the system of
having political parties is well past its sell-by date - if indeed it
_ever_ had any validity. It forces MPs to either vote for things they
don't necessarily agree with, or be outcast from their party. If they
could vote as they believed, I think it would be a better place.

    :-)

(Since everybody seems to be watching this thread, may I swerve it
    elsewhere for a moment?)

I'm having a few problems with Usenet right now and I'm not sure
whether to blame the flaky memory stick where I keep my flaky 2007
version of Agent-on-a-Stick or the flaky Eternal September server or
some or all of the above. I've put a fresh install onto a fresh flash
drive so we'll see what happens.

In the mean time, this would have been a "please keep the noise down"
request if only there were more noise on umra <sigh>. I'm going to be
away during the month of October, so if you don't hear from me, it
probably just means I haven't cracked the Usenet problem. If you
haven't heard from me by the first week or so of November then by all
means, send out the search parties. Who knows? While you are out
there, you might also find Sir Ranulph Fiennes?

I cannot get to grips with usenet when on holiday but should resurface

I gather that Sir Ranulph has a delightful wife who feels that he can no longer manage human interaction and is therefore best kept safe. No

what is supposed to reassure and protect one could also be used as a

Another thought that has just occurred to me which could possibly turn
out to be an explanation for the explorer case: if, after the LPA
documents have been drawn up, the attorney becomes more incapable and irrational than the attornified, what then? Are there mechanisms to
void the agreements? And given the subject of the LPA may no longer be competent to sign a new LPA all over again, what then?

IANAL but a snippet I overheard on the wireless box suggested that it
would be necessary to prove malpractice or misconduct by the attorney to
the Dickensian sounding Court of Protection, a process which would
probably end up with Fiennes and Fiennes being as much of a byword as
    Jarndyce and Jarndyce.

I have an LPA, but I have four attorneys - two nieces, a goddaughter and
a step-granddaughter. They are all fiercely honest, intelligent and
protective and work together well. I can't imagine any of them going off

We have not yet done it (it has been discussed). Whilst we might trust
one daughter we have always felt that the others would be unhappy at any decision she made and would not wish to burden her. We are somewhat
lost as to whom might be appointed.

I have an LPA, but I have four attorneys - two nieces, a goddaughter
and a step-granddaughter. They are all fiercely honest, intelligent
and protective and work together well. I can't imagine any of them
going off the rails and incarcerating me but if one tried the others
would sort it out very quickly. I think having POA residing in only
one person is a problem waiting to happen.

    <LW>

I have 3 attorneys - waife, BrratSKi and NortyDorter, all wonderful
    people...

We have not yet done it (it has been discussed). Whilst we might trust
one daughter we have always felt that the others would be unhappy at any >decision she made and would not wish to burden her. We are somewhat
lost as to whom might be appointed.

I had wondered if the Court of Protection could be called on to act in
the role of attorney but Google seems to think not: only to handle
    disputes.

I suppose the simplest solution is just not to become infirm or die.

If only it were that simple. I know it sounds weird to make comments
that you do not feel you can trust your children and we will probably
    have to do so.

I think that I have previously recorded in umra where we stand with one daughter.

With another things seem to be on a downward slope. Their third child
took GCSE's in the summer and we asked to be told the results. It is
now September and no-one has felt able to tell us. We are not told why
it needs to be kept a secret, indeed there has been no communication at
    all.

My wife is completely eaten up by the apparent refusal to tell us or
indeed have any communication at all. There are other aspects which (to
be fair to those involved) I cannot reveal.

Even if they do not see us or want to talk to us at least communicating
a set of results (which I suspect were above average knowing the child)
    seems mean and unnecessary.

I have no doubt that I am missing the point somewhere.

Seems the latter may be the only way to ...

This afternoon I went into Nationwide, to open a one-year bond account
(theirs was the best interest rate on offer when I looked around last
night - at least, among the institutions that have physical branches in
my local town, which is my criterion, as I want the ability to talk to a
real human if I need to [I've said before that Ashford is amazingly well
    served in this respect]).

Previously, when I've looked into fixed-term accounts, I've been told
that if you draw the money out before the end of the term, you suffer a
severe penalty - loss of interest, at least, possibly more than you'd
actually gained at that point. That seems fair enough - they give the
promised interest rate on the presumption you're not going to touch the
money for the agreed period. Some accounts allow, say, one to three withdrawals, or up to 10%, or something like that; some say the only way
to withdraw is to close the account, with whatever penalties apply.
    Again, all seems fair enough.

But I was told by the chap in Nationwide that their bond is - you
_cannot_ get at your money _at all_ during the period - he said
something like "possibly with the exception of if you die".

I didn't open the account; I'm going to think about it.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Kosmo. These sorts of strained
relationships can be so life and energy-sapping.

The sort of blended family that has evolved for us over the past
twenty-odd years seems to be working out well with everybody at the
centre knowing that they are loved and that they belong. But you only
have to move a little from the centre to find friction and unhappiness
and resentment and that, of course, affects everyone.

Kate B is right: you really want a number of people collectively
responsible for administering a LPA but there's only one who I would
want who lives near enough - ie, in the same country. He is lovely,
kind and smart but I worry about others from the periphery who might
want their say when, if you'll excuse a burst of selfishness, it's me
who wants my say and for someone else to carry my say out.

I have no doubt that I am missing the point somewhere.

In my experience, there might never have actually been a point and if
there was, by now, people have probably forgotten what it was.

This might be my last contribution to this thread, at least for a
while. Please nobody take my silence personally - I'm nuggering off in
    just a few hours.

On a positive note, this new install on a new flash drive seems to be
holding up so you might not have got rid of me quite yet.

Take care, everybody, and buen viaje Kosmo
