Does anyone really think the Snells can't manage without the B&B ?
Robert worked as an IT Contractor iirc, which is not a badly paid job
and surely he was sensible enough to have invested in a pension and to
save some of his income ?
Did Lindy work, or just interfere with everyone else's lives as she
belatedly realised when dealing with the awkward guest ?
Even if she didn't, they should be on 2 full state pensions plus R's
pension so should be able to manage as presumably the grand house is
paid off. If not they should downsize and release some equity.

And they no longer have to feed a large dog.

On a more serious note it could be that Robert's first wife got a large
share of his pension in the divorce settlement so his contribution to
the household finances might be smaller than you think.

I hadn't thought of that, but wasn't Linda married before too, so
wouldn't the same apply to her in reverse, or if he's a lat-ex, she
should still be receiving some pension from his fund.

    And the downsizing still applies...

A polite reminder that Robert was very close to being declared bankrupt
when the IT business dried up for his speciality and they started the
B&B and Lynda started riding a bike to get around. Bobo got a lot of
the money and he probably skimped on the pension contributions when
things were awkward. He may actually have been declared bankrupt and
the Hall was put in Lynda's name - I cannot remember now.

What do we know about pre-Ambridge Lynda? I've been looking through
Who's Who and can find no mention. We know Robert was married before
but perhaps there's a reason, based in her past why Lynda might not be receiving a full state pension.

Was she always working full time at Gay Grables? Might there have been
years when she was paid beneath the Lower Earnings Limit?
