I have a new benchmark of when one turns into an old person:

"Oh, those were the days!" I thought.

(tips on storing my sig somewhere where Thunderbird can find it ((I
don't keep any of my own data on the C: drive: it's all in Dropbox on my
D: drive)) would be gratefully received.)

    Try:

    Thunderbird

Tools / Account Settings for relevant account

    Penultimate tick box
Attach signature from a file instead

I can choose a dropbox file.

Yes, that's what I have - it picks up from D: where my ancient DOS

As I still look exactly as I did at umra bbqs but much much slimmer, no one believes I'm almost 75. I have pushed one or two people who know me well

Hooray. Sorry for the misdirection. I perhaps should have said I am on 128.3.2 and there is an esr of higher number available. If I knew what
an esr was I might be interested (extra stable release?, extremely
suspicious release? - it might be relevant).

Oops, F E Smith (Lord Birkenhead)

If given your own peerage John, in the form "Lord Ashby of {Place}".

What place would you think most fitting?

(I for one would not chose Birkenhead.)

P.S.-a You may have to avoid any placename which is already in use, so
    some checking may be required.

At the risk of providing fodder for identity thieves, though the fashion
for such security questions seems to have waned, when growing up much confusion arose from the fact that we lived on Ashley Road, so Lord
Ashby of Ashley would have a pleasing assonance.

John Ashby has told us Extended Support Release, but your first guess is
pretty close to what it's about! It's nominally for institutional users
who don't want frequent updates as they like to implement company-wide
changes like that, but for we mere mortals, it's more or less what you
said: esr doesn't get updated as often as the main one, but is still
supported until a bit after the next esr. The _numbers_ of the esrs more
or less match those of the normal releases (i. e. the esr sequence skips
some numbers - it recently went from 149 to 153, for example), though a
given esr may be slightly more troubleshot (is that a word?) than its equivalent in the normal sequence.

What place would you think most fitting?

(I for one would not chose Birkenhead.)

P.S.a You may have to avoid any placename which is already in use, so
    some checking may be required.

At the risk of providing fodder for identity thieves, though the fashion
for such security questions seems to have waned, when growing up much
confusion arose from the fact that we lived on Ashley Road, so Lord
Ashby of Ashley would have a pleasing assonance.

    You?

Oh. I would definitely plump for Lord Plusnet Of No Fixed Abode.

(Mind you, Wormwood Scrubs has a certain ring to it.)

Oi!!! Give that ring back at once, you 'orrible little scroat!!!

    Of course!

So now you are none the wiser but much better

Also slightly wiser. I could have looked up which version I am using, I guess.

    Help | About will tell you: I'm on "153.1.1esr (64-bit)" - if it doesn't
have esr in it, you're on the other track. That window also tells me
"You are currently on the esr update channel."

Think of them as two parallel tracks - the trains travel at the same
speed, but the esr one stops at fewer stations; once you are on one
track or the other, you stay on it, unless you deliberately change. (To
find how to set the points to do so, ask in the TB 'group.)

Oh. I would definitely plump for Lord Plusnet Of No Fixed Abode.

Might I attone for that by swerving onto the subject of a religious

heavy fell down and killed one man and injured several others?

Do you think it was a sign?

    Thanks for that.

I've been wondering: they keep telling us that the late King of Norway
was the oldest monarch in Europe, or something like that.
I've been wondering who that crown (no joke intended) now passes to, and
a little surprised none of the media (that I've seen/heard, anyway) has
    told us.

An AI has informed me that Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein replaces Harald in that position.
    Prince Hans-Adam II is 81.

It seems that, although he is a prince and not a king, he is nonetheless
    a monarch.

I'm sure this all must be correct, since an AI said it.
