Did we ever meet Rex and Toby's mum and did she drink instant coffee?

I'm afraid I never saw Anthony Head in Buffet the Vampire Slayer - the
only Buffy I knew was Phoebe in Friends - but I thought he camped up
his performance a treat as the Head Teacher in the Doctor Who episode
    "School Reunion."

I was surprised to learn that Anthony Head was younger than me but I
suppose I ought not to be: everybody is younger than me these days.
I'm so sorry we've lost him.

Likewise, apart from him being a few weeks older than me. Sadly he lost
his very long term partner only a few months ago (she was only 61) and I
have seen one reference to him having long term health problems although
I am a little surprised the recent script which mentioned his
forthcoming visit to the village - I had assumed he might be heard again.
