    RT Review by David Crawford

It has been foreshadowed subtly, even by querulous Carol Tregorran, but
after Pip discovers a lump in her breast, an anxious Stella and an
empathetic Ruth support her at the clinic appointment. Could the
Brookfield wedding fall apart in the worst possible way?

Brian finally tells Lilian whatrCOs happening between him and George rCo leaving her horrified at the implications. A coffee rCLin the Irish stylerCY may be in order.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

We last heard from Bert in 2012. I wonder whether an absence of 14 years
is long enough for us not to notice a change in voice. Back then, he
    sounded more like Martyn Read.

Ms Shah will be Pip's doctor, no doubt. Sudha Bhuchar previously
appeared in 2018, as Sandeep Johal, an environment officer.

On first reading I didn't pay enough attention to the cast list and
jumped to the (wrong) conclusion that a different Bert was back from

Somewhat difficult for Mr Read to read his part I believe hence the
    recasting.

Elsewhere it was noted that the character had recently gained a
photograph on the cast list page. One wonders why it was felt necessary
    to bring him back.

Perhaps in order to kill him off.

Not wishing to claim any responsibility but I understand from another
place that Ms Shah's best friend created the part of one Usha Gupta and
indeed there did appear to be vocal similarities. Usha is of course
(unlike Tracy) past the age of regular mammograms so I assume they are unlikely to talk to each other.

You are right, The Archers Encyclopaedia confirms that Usha Gupta has
been played by both Sudha Bhuchar and Souad Faress.

Usha was born in 1962 and is coming up to 64. The NHS normally carries
out breast screening every 3 years until your 71st birthday, so Usha
might have another 3 mammograms before they stop inviting her to have
one. I doubt whether Usha would encounter Ms Shah during a routine
mammogram though, it sounded as if she deals with cases where there is
cause for concern, found either as a result of a mammogram or because
the patient has found something unusual, as Pip did. Presumably that
could happen after the age of 71.
