They were in the dairy because Helen was chiding Tracy for not closing
the door of the fridge and for then admitting that chit chat was
distracting in the dairy.

He did but then the scriptwriters in a moment of absolute stupidity
insisted that the houses return to the Home Farm ownership in exchange
for a mythical partnership which no longer seems to meet to run the farm
and instead Adam does all the work. At the time Chris should have
objected but he later got a pay off for the divorce by being given the
cottage which Jakob rents for some reason and Martha has to climb the
rickety stairs to the flat - except that since the useless waste of
space Hazel fell out with the builders Chris has had nowhere to lay his
poor head and even the writers had that wrong with him back at Fallon's
after he had moved out.
