Whereas my age is an old shellac record!

In the 60s, I came across a large box of shellac records ("78s") dating
from the 30s. Closer inspection revealed that some labels stated a
    playing speed of 80 rpm.

Back on topic, I am 69 days younger than the Archers.

Yeap, 78 rpm was just one speed used, in years gone down the plughole ago,
I was occasionally asked to transcribe old shellac discs for
museums, companies, colleges etc. and individuals. I used a variable speed turntable to accommodate this variation.

Yes, it's a fascinating subject (if you're that way inclined); several companies stuck with 80 for quite a while. For a fun (don't worry, it's
short) discussion (including mention of chocolate!) see (the bottom half
