Germany still has Woolworths. And someone should have given them
shopping baaskets. At least they won't get fleeced at the tills (I'll
ram home these puns wether you excewese me or not).

I am sure Lynda would have said something along the lines of let us
pretend there are no sheep here.

They might have called in the Staasi but an Irish baatender who happened to be in the store realised they were only looking for flock wallpaper and bottles of Gl Ovine; I believe the baatenderrCOs name was Lan OrCOLin. There was nearly a riot, but then the sheep sheared off to another exit.

of Penny's; I was unaware that they had branches in Germany - I thought
they were just an American chain. (The name wouldn't have the same
double meaning as in English/American.) Of course it was in Bavaria,
which was the part of Germany occupied (sort of) by the US, so maybe
that store opened branches there then - but I don't think they're there
now, in the same way as the UK is no longer in the Ruhr area.
Penny Markt and J C Penny are two totally different companies operating
in different business sectors.
