We have two very big planning applications in progress nearby. They are
way beyond what any county council can sensibly deal with (should be NSIPs).
Some of the documents submitted were large enough to break the planning
portal (and had to be split into two). Total document count is 841 as of today. About 80 of them are from the original application.
Everyone agrees that there was no chance to process it in 6 months.
Both have now clocked up 20 months since the initial applications were
filed. The first one was due for a final decision by end of April 2026
(but secured an extension to 31/8). It is now clear that it will not be considered at all at the next strategic planning meeting either.
The second one hasn't even been looked at at all this year. The person
dealing with it left the council end of last year and although they were replaced the new person spends all of their time firefighting.
How long can these delays go on for before someone pulls the plug?
North Yorkshire county council admits that their planning department
service is "diabolical" (their words not mine).

Although to be fair to them in *this case* it is the Applicant that is dragging its feet by not answering the remaining queries.
What is the procedure for having a planning application struck off?
What is the longest ever wait for a planning decision in the UK?
